“US Navy Commodores,” The Opera House, Boothbay Harbor

Nov. 7, Thursday, 7pm, “US Navy Commodores,” The Commodores, the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Navy, will travel from Washington D.C. this fall to offer big band jazz at its finest. The group features 19 of the Navy’s top jazz and “big band” musicians – 5 saxophonists, 4 trombonists, 4 trumpeters, a 4-member rhythm section, and a vocalist. The Commodores perform a mixture of music ranging from the authentic sounds of the swing era to the high-energy big band jazz of today. Nov. 7, Thursday, 7pm, “Will Brown and Friends Coffeehouse Performance,” Fredi LaPorte and Rick Fitzsimmons will join Will Brown during the concert for several sets of fiddle tunes with guitar accompaniment. Nov. 8-9, Friday-Saturday, 7pm, “The Threepenny Opera,” everyman Rep and Bay Chamber Concerts co-production of this modern day translation of Bertolt Brecht’s and Kurt Weill’s most famous work, as relevant today as it was when it was written in 1930s Germany and for many of the same reasons. This production features 12 actors and seven multi-instrumentalist, a stunning set and lighting, incredible costumes and brilliant performances, $10-$20, Rockport Opera House, 6 Central Street, Rockport. Nov. 8, Friday, 7pm, “Palaver Strings Peresents Welcome Home,” Welcome Home celebrates the vitality of Maine’s immigrant communities through music and storytelling. Palaver Strings will collaborate with guest artists of Franco-American, Burundian, and Iraqi heritage, sharing traditional music and personal stories of their families’ journeys to Maine. As we tour with this program around Maine, we will celebrate Maine’s cultural diversity, reflect on our own histories, and create space for dialogue between performers and listeners from different backgrounds. Nov. 8, Friday, 8pm, “Peter Gallway & The Real Band Album Release Celebration,” Gallway Bay Music is proud to announce the November 8, 2019 release of the new Peter Gallway & The Real Band album, Reach For It. The album was written and recorded at Gallways Rockland, Maine studio during 2019. When asked to describe the process, Gallway had this to say: I wrote the songs on this album specifically for the bandtimeless, full but spare, featuring all of our collective talents, style, and experience. Peter Gallway is one of the most popular and respected musical figures on the Maine music scene. Called a master of free verse in the Boston Globe, he has released more than twenty-five albums on the Warner/Reprise and various independent labels.
