Sept. 19, Thursday, 6:30-8pm, “Getting to Know Our Trees: Tree Identification,” Morten Moesswilde, Maine Forest Service District Forester, will lead a hands-on tree identification session to help participants recognize a few of the most common native tree species of the midcoast. Using primarily branch samples, we’ll go through as many species as time allows. Learn to focus on a few of the important characteristics that distinguish similar species. Sept. 19, Thursday, 8pm, “Jed Wilson Trio,” Jed Wilson is a versatile performer, equally at home in the disparate worlds of jazz, free improvisation, and folk music. As an accompanist, Wilson is best known for a long-term collaboration with singer-songwriter Heather Masse, with whom he has toured widely (including making multiple appearances on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion). Additionally, he has performed with Aoife O’Donovan, Taylor O’Donnell, and Dominique Eade. Sept. 21, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Josephine County,” Josephine County combines the talents of four accomplished traditional musicians into one musical experience that takes the listener on a journey from the United States to Ireland and back. Sept. 22, Sunday, 2pm, “Le Bon Truc,” Le Bon Truc (The Good Thing) is a unique and dynamic trio that is breathing new life into off-the-beaten-path French folk music. Sept. 25, Wednesday, 6pm, “Songs of the Sea,” Jim Mageean and Pat Sheridan, folk singers and international recording artists who hail, respectively, from England and Ireland, will perform traditional sea shanties during an evening celebrating maritime music. Mageean’s world-renowned performances and arrangements have been featured in international festivals, television, and film, including 2003’s Master and Commander:The Far Side of the World.
