Sept. 13, Friday, 7pm, “Susie Pepper & Mixology- ‘A Night at the Movies’” featuring many favorite songs from Disney and other beloved musicals. Mixology is a group of seasoned professional musicians who have performed hundreds of gigs covering jazz standards, pop, rock, R&B and genres from Elvis to Beyonce. Susie Pepper is well-known throughout Southern Maine as a talented and dynamic vocalist. Susie won the title of Miss Maine in 2009 and was a featured soloist in the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s 2014 and 2017 Magic of Christmas series. Sept. 14, Saturday, 7:30am-4:30pm, “2019 Loon Echo Trek,” Hike from Denmark to Bridgton over Pleasant Mountain, Southern Maine’s tallest mountain! A 6-mile route for hikers starts with a shuttle bus ride from Shawnee Peak Ski Area to the shuttle bus drop off at the Southwest Ridge Trail. The route crosses over Pleasant Mountain, passing three rest stops and finishes at Shawnee Peak ski area, where trekkers are greeted with food and (free) BEER! Shuttle service for recreational hikers to the trail head is provided by Camp Wyonegonic. Proceeds from the Trek support Loon Echo Land Trust’s conservation efforts in the Lake Region. Trail Race – 10k run along the same route as the hikers. There will be no mass start, but runners will be timed, with prizes awarded to the top male and female runners in each category! Categories are based on age: 18-39, 40-60, and 60+.-Registration and bib pick-up will occur at the Shawnee Peak Base Lodge. Plenty of parking is available for trekkers and their families! -Trekkers can start their run/hike at any time between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. -Shuttles will take hikers and runners to the Southwest Ridge Trail summit parking area from Shawnee Peak every 20-30 minutes. -Trekkers finish at Shawnee Peak Base Lodge where they are greeted with food! And beer! (cost included in registration for Trekkers). Sept. 14, Saturday, 7-8:30pm, “Café Barcelona,” take a trip to Spain and Brazil without leaving town, and help support live music in the local community. The Raymond Arts Alliance will host internationally known guitarist/composer Peter Griggs. Mr. Griggs will present “Cafe Barcelona,” a selection Spanish and Brazilian music, as well as several of his own compositions, on this wide-ranging program. A highly skilled guitarist in flamenco, bossa nova, samba and other Latin guitar styles, he is also an expressive vocalist and will perform several classic Brazilian songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa during the concert. Peter Griggs has presented more than 600 solo guitar concerts throughout the USA, Germany, United Kingdom, France, the Low Countries, Scandinavia and eastern Europe at art centers, festivals, museums, churches, jazz clubs and other venues. His recordings are available on Folkways Records, Music Of The World, Treecastle Music and CD Baby. He was based for more than ten years in Dusseldorf, Germany and now resides in South Harpswell, Maine. Critics in Germany and the United Kingdom have hailed Griggs as “a master of expressive sounds” known for his “sizzling guitar playing” and “sophisticated and highly enjoyable” programs. Sept. 14, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Raging Brass,” a 7-piece band collectively creating Afro-Caribbean music. We are a brass-roots dance band following the musical migration from West Africa to Cuba, Jamaica, and Brazil with the spirit of New Orleans. This eclectic group was established in 2014 by trumpeter and bandleader Marc Chillemi in Southern Maine. Raging Brass explores roots music fueled by the rhythmic and melodic intuition of each player in the styles of Afro-Beat, Ska, Soukous, Highlife, Rocksteady, Roots Reggae, Samba, Cumbia, and Salsa. Sept. 14, Saturday, 7pm, “Back to the Drawing Board-Lynne McGhee’s One-Woman Show,” back to the Drawing Board Meet Edna, an eccentric artist and performer who lives life passionately and unconventionally. Using comedy, music and improv, this interactive* one-woman show is sure to keep you laughing and thinking long after you’ve left the theater. Performed and written by Lynne McGhee, a proud member of Actors Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs and BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret.) She holds a BA in Theater and has certifications in personal development coaching from the Coaches Training Institute and a certificate in expressive arts from New York Expressive Arts. Lynne has performed throughout New York and New England with Maine State Music Theater, Portland Stage Company, Good Theater, The Weathervane Theater, Actor’s Theater of Maine and various regional theaters. Lynne enjoys voice over work and was on air radio talent for WPOR’s morning drive shows, The Baxter and Lynne Show and The WPOR Morning Crew. McGhee also produced and performed cabaret shows at The Eastland Park Hotel as The Broadway Cabaret. Other cabaret shows have included work at Danny’s Skylight Room and Don’t Tell Mama’s in NYC. She has acted in film and television both locally and nationally appearing in 30 Rock, I Think I Love My Wife, Baby Mama, True North, The Fay-Lindsay Jones Story and more. Sept. 14, Saturday, 8:30-10:30pm, “L.L. Bean-Full Moon Hiking Tour,” everything changes when the sun goes down. Join us on this special three-hour guided hike to experience the trail in a whole new light and discover the fascinating nightlife of nocturnal animals. On this memorable adventure, our guides will teach you how to properly prepare for a safe hike, review equipment use and share Leave No Trace principles. Afterwards, we will head out as a group, traversing over easy to moderate terrain and trails. Along the way, our guides will also share information about the local ecosystem and history, and maybe even a ghost story. Because full moon hikes offer spectacular views, we’ll stop frequently to take photos of the nighttime landscape bathed in the brilliant light of the moon, so be sure to bring your camera.
