Aug. 22-25, Thursday-Sunday, all day events, “Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festival,” some of the Greatest Bluegrass music you can see and hear at one of the largest family musical events in New England! The Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festivals has something for all ages and it takes place twice every year bringing thousands of Music lovers from all over the World to hear banjos, fiddles, and those high, lonesome harmonies which features many National and Local bands from all over the world. Music happens every June and August. The First Blistered Fingers Festival was established in June of 1991 and 5 years later the decision was made to start the August festival. There are accommodations for Buses, RV’s, Campers, Tents, Day Attendees and 4 days of entertainment. Aug. 22-25, Thursday-Sunday, 7pm, “Shakespeare in the Plaza: As You Like It,” For the third year in a row, Gypsy Lew Theater Company and the Lewiston Public Library are coming together to bring some Shakespeare in the Plaza, with a free production of As You Like It! This delightful and hilarious tale begins when Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke falls in love with Orlando, the disinherited son of one of the duke’s friends. However, she is banished from the court by her usurping uncle, and takes on the appearance of a boy, calling herself Ganymede. She flees with her cousin Celia and the jester Touchstone to the Forest of Arden, where her father and his friends live in exile. This comedy, set in the groovy 1970s, follows the group of banished and runaway misfits who find love, friendship, and themselves in the forest of Arden. Bring your blankets and chairs. Aug. 22-24, Thursday-Saturday, 8pm, “Chicago,” in roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune and acquittal. Aug. 23, Friday, 7pm, “Sound Off #2-Battle of the Bands,” part of the Johnson Hall’s Free Waterfront Concert Series, the area is grass, so bring blankets and chairs with you! There will also be food on site for purchase or pick up food from one of our local businesses on the way to enjoy while listening to the music. Aug. 24, Saturday, 2-4pm, “Historic Tidbit Tasting Tour,” hosted by Red Cloak Tours, and will allow you to have some “tastes” of local foods & specialties as well as iconic Maine foods. “Tidbits” of history about the restaurant/store buildings will be told, as well as about the foods that you’ll be tasting.
