Aug. 15, Thursday, 8pm, “Sibling Reverly, Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway,” When Tony-nominated sisters Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway combine musical forces, they put the revelry into rivalry in this award-winning show of great songs and witty banter. SIBLING REVELRY was first presented at New York’s Rainbow and Stars, garnered raves at The Donmar Warehouse in London, and continues to sell out halls across the country both as a trio act and with symphony orchestras. The best-selling CD on DRG Records, remains one of the classic cabaret must-haves. Separately, of course, they have made names for themselves: Ann’s an acclaimed pop/jazz singer and songwriter and Liz is a Broadway veteran and recording artist. But put them together, and this dynamic duo proves they’re one singular sensation, whether singing Broadway showstoppers from Chicago, Wicked and Cats or rousing renditions of jazz and pop standards like “Happy Days/Get Happy,” “Friendship” and their TV hit, the theme from “The Nanny.” See site for ticketing details, Vinegar Hill Music Theatre, 53 Old Post Road, Arundel. Aug. 17, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Maine Humorist Tim Sample,” a Maine native whose unique style of New England humor has gained him a national following. Good Morning America host Charles Gibson referred Sample as, “The man who wrote the book-literally, on Maine humor!” Legendary CBS newsman Charles Kuralt called Sample “Maine’s Humorist Laureate.” Describing Tim Sample’s work as “humor” rather than “comedy” is, according to bestselling novelist Stephen King a very important distinction: “He’s a funny guy, you’ll get no argument from me on that score, but no more a comedian than Mark Twain or Artemis Ward. Like, them, Timmy (that’s what I always call him the way folks from up our way are apt to call their friends “dearie”) “ isn’t acting; he’s just talking in a kind of heightened and gifted way, as folks do when they’re passing on valuable tales about the human condition.” In addition to TV, radio and bestselling albums of “down east” humor (five of them released on the legendary Bert and I label), Tim spent eleven years (1993 -2004) as a regular correspondent for the Emmy award winning network television show CBS News Sunday Morning, hosted by Charles Osgood. Tim has written also and/or illustrated over a dozen books, including regional bestsellers Saturday Night at Moody’s Diner and How to Talk Yankee. Tim has narrated several award-winning films and audiobooks including; Robert McCloskey’s children’s classic Burt Dow Deep Water Man, Stephen King’s The Sun Dog and Drunken Fireworks and the immensely popular film documentary From Stump to Ship. In a career spanning four decades Tim has appeared at venues as diverse as The Mall of America, Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo, the Caribou Maine Performing Arts Center and The Mall of America Tim currently resides “all the way down east” in Calais, Maine with his wife and their brilliant Cairn Terrier “Cosmo”. $18/advance, $22/door, Biddeford City Theater, 205 Main Street, Biddeford.
