Aug. 8, Thursday, 7:30pm, “Capriccio,” esteemed violinist and leader of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Geoff Nuttall is joined by long time collaborator, pianist Pedja Muzijevic and celebrated performer, accomplished composer and TED Senior Fellow, cellist Joshua Roman. Also appearing in this concert is “a bona-fide star” (The New Yorker), and “A perfect musician” (Le Monde), Grammy nominated countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. Their program includes Krzysztof Penderecki’s Capriccio per Siegfried Palm for solo cello, Beethoven’s Piano Trio in D Major, Op. 70, No. 1, “Ghost”. Aug. 9, Friday, 4-7pm, “2nd Friday Brunswick Artwalk,” offers a fun evening of artistic exploration featuring visual art, live music, dance and theatrical performances, and extended shopping hours all within walking distance of Maine Street. Aug. 9, Friday, 7pm, “VentiCordi Concert, ‘Song of the Nightingale,” VentiCordi Chamber Music, winner of Down East Magazine’s Readers’ Choice award as Best Group in Maine, 2016 & 2017 is proud to present its 11th season. VentiCordi has been lauded for its highly intriguing programming of chamber music featuring winds and strings. Praised for their “…beautifully articulated, shapely playing and rock-solid ensemble”, audiences and critics alike meet VentiCordi with great enthusiasm. For their third concert program of the summer season, VentiCordi will present “Song of the Nightingale”, an imaginative combination of works featuring Georges Migot’s Le Soir Tombe, for Oboe, Violin, and Piano, Paul Hindemith’s Die Serenaden for Soprano, Oboe, Viola, and Cello, Sharon Davis’s 3 Moods of Emily Dickinson for Soprano, Violin, Cello, and Piano, and Theodore Dubois’s Quintet for Piano, Oboe, Violin, Viola, and Cello. Aug. 9, Friday, 8:30pm, “Candlelit Baroque Concert,” one of our most popular summer performances this year features arias by Handel and Purcell sung by the “otherworldly” (The Wall Street Journal) and “vocally brilliant and dramatically fearless” (The New York Times) countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. This sparkling concert also includes a performance of C.P.E. Aug. 11, Sunday, 8pm, “Stargazing at Crystal Spring Farm,” the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust and the Southern Maine Astronomers will lead an exploration of the night sky, including viewing the moon, Jupiter and Saturn from the Farmers’ Market Green at Crystal Spring Farm. Astronomy Club members will help any who have been confounded in getting their telescopes to “work right.” Club members will bring scopes as well.
