July 25, Thursday, 5:30pm, “Music in the Park: Sabouyouma,” a high energy 7-piece polyrhythmic groove machine that formed through ongoing musical relationships in Burlington, Vermont’s vibrant West-African dance and drumming scene. Sabouyouma is led by Guinean-born Ousmane Camara: the band’s front man, composer, and master Balafonist (the Balafon is a West-African marimba). In 2017 Sabouyouma opened for nationally touring acts like Xenia Rubinos (Brooklyn), Polyrhythmics (Seattle), Ikebe Shakedown (Brooklyn), and Jonathan Scales Fourchestra (Asheville, North Carolina), and has performed at music festivals that have become staples of the Vermont music scene: Burlington Discover Jazz Fest, Waking Windows, and The Manifestivus, free, Rotary Park, Outer Main Street, Biddeford. July 25-27, Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm, “Dead Man’s Cell Phone,” in a world where technology is swallowing our souls and people are desperate for connection, a lonely woman, Jean (Jennifer Porter), sits in a quiet cafe next to a man who makes no move to answer his incessantly ringing phone. In frustration, she steps in to silence the ring, and discovers that the man, Gordon (William McDonough III) is dead. On impulse, she answers his ringing phone and is instantly pulled into the complicated relationships Gordon has left behind. Jean soon finds herself trying to tie up Gordon’s loose ends with his overbearing mother, Harriet (Claudia Schneider), his neglected wife, Hermia, (Maria Hendricks), his stoic brother, Dwight (Dana Packard), and his mysterious mistress. Before she can stop it, Jean is embroiled as well in Gordon’s shady business dealings, and realizes she may be in for far more than she bargained for. July 27, Saturday, 8pm, “The Kingston Trio,” fans of legendary folk icons The Kingston Trio will soon have an opportunity to re-discover their timeless music in a national tour to mark the group’s 60th anniversary on a national tour performing many of the Trio’s best-loved songs. Cited as an influence by recording artists as musically and generationally diverse as Dylan, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Eagles to comedian and banjo player Steve Martin to contemporary artists such as the multi-Grammy® winners Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers, The Kingston Trio recently celebrated 60 years of entertaining audiences with the “Keep the Music Playing Tour”. All three current members, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Don Marovich have intrinsic links to and experience with the original group: Mike is the adopted son of founding member Nick Reynolds, who was also his musical mentor; Tim, a close friend since boyhood, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Don Marovich, who toured with the Trio.
