May 2, Thursday, 6:30pm, “Author Mac Smith-‘Mainers on the Titanic’,” traces the stories of passengers on that fateful ship who had ties to Maine. Their tales are retold, along with the sinking-related events in the state at that time. It’s a unique and fascinating addition to the Titanic story and to Maine history. Mac Smith is a Navy veteran of the First Gulf War and former news reporter for the Bar Harbor Times, light refreshments will be served, books will be available and signed, free, Gray Public Library, 5 Hancock Street, Gray. May 2, Thursday, 8pm, “Red Molly,” if one word describes Red Milly that word is joyous…an extraordinary female trio with “tick-tight arrangements, crystalline vocals and caramel harmonies” that the Boston Globe praised. Red Molly creates music with gorgeous a cappella ballads, bluegrass-tinged folk and a touch of jazzy western swing, all done up in Red Molly’s trademark three-part harmonies, signature dobro licks and inventive arrangements. May 3, Friday, 7:30pm, “Bradley Backstage: Dave Kobrenski & Jed Wilson,” Dave Kobrenski & Jed Wilson’s collaboration brings together traditional West African and contemporary American styles, creating a vibrant and eclectic musical ecosystem. Accompanied by drummer Craig Bryan, Wilson and Kobrenski create an improvised musical experience that combines Wilson’s virtuoso acoustic piano playing with Kobrenski’s nimble plucking of the 10-stringed West African harp known as ngoni, and the multi-timbred voices of the three-holed Fulani flute. May 4, Saturday, 7:30pm, “T-Acadie,” a folk trio and contradance band from midcoast Maine, play traditional French Canadian, New England and Appalachian tunes including Sea Shanty’s, Cajun waltzes, two steps, and Zydeco. May 8, Wednesday, 7pm, “Maine Pops Concert Band,” the Maine POPS Concert Band (formerly, Italian Heritage Center Concert Band) has been active since its founding in 1988. Based in the Greater Portland area, the Maine POPS Concert Band is Southern Maine’s largest (and best) amateur community concert band. They play a diverse selection of music, including pop and show tunes, big band jazz and much more!
