May 4, Saturday, 7pm, “CODA Chorus of Winthrop Spring Concert,” CODA Chorus, the Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony and the Pineland Suzuki players will join forces, The combined feature will present “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi, a joyous masterpiece of Baroque music, where they will be joined by professional soloists Mary Sullivan, Soprano and Joëlle Morris, Mezzo-Soprano. CODA Chorus, KVYS and the Pineland Suzuki players will also perform brief selections from their repertoire. CODA Chorus, led by Joëlle Morris, is an all-inclusive community chorus located in Winthrop with the goal of providing an opportunity for local singers of all backgrounds and abilities to join one another in song. Comprised of talented middle and high school students, the Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony is modeled on professional orchestras, playing a wide variety of original orchestral compositions, including full concertos in both the fall and spring programs. KVYS is conducted by the energetic & inspiring Jinwook Park, who performs, directs, and teaches in Boston and at Colby College. May 4, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Bates Senior Thesis Concert,” student composers Grace Zhang and Jio’vanni Delvalle will present music they wrote for their thesis projects. Zhang’s piece for chamber orchestra is titled “The Fairytale” and is scored for flute, piano, two violins, cello and percussion. Pat has worked all her professional life as a vocalist, sax player, songwriter and music teacher. With a career that spans over 25 years, Pat has three times represented the Maine Blues Society in the International Blues Challenge, produced three CDs and now has a tour schedule that incudes shows and festival appearances up and down the east coast. May 7, Tuesday, 7pm, “Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras’ Spring Concert,” The power and beauty of classical music will be showcased by the young musicians of Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras, two orchestras of young people, with a guest appearance from Coda Chorus for a very special collaboration, will present music of magnificent drama and excitement. Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony, conducted by Jinwook Park, will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, considered one of sacred music’s most uplifting choral works, with the critically acclaimed CODA Chorus. Also included in the program are selections from Beethoven’s Prometheus Overture featuring powerful brass & timpani sections and a full orchestral sound, and Schubert’s Tragic Symphony, harnessing Schubert’s youthful energy and excitement. The preparatory ensemble, Kennebec Valley Youth Orchestra conducted by Dan Keller, will perform selections from Telemann’s Don Quixote Suite and Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite.
