Apr. 5, Thursday, 5-7:30pm, “Art Celebrates Place,” the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust presents the 10th annual Arts Celebrates Place event. Art Celebrates Place showcases the work of local artists and the landscapes of the Mount Washington Valley and western Maine. Apr. 5-7, Friday-Sunday, 6pm/Fri, 1pm/Sat. and Sun, ‘Cinderella,” the age-old story of the cinder-girl, is familiar, well-loved and considered the world’s most timeless fairy tale. Get swept up in the romance as one of Maine State Ballet’s most beloved ballets returns to the stage. The classic tale of Cinderella is brought to life as an ordinary girl experiences one magical night, thanks to her Fairy Godmother and a pair of glass slippers! Complete with Prokofiev’s well-loved musical score, Maine State Ballet’s Cinderella is filled with romance, comedy, lovely dancing, gorgeous sets and costumes, and hilarious hijinks that will have audiences, young and old, laughing out loud. Apr. 5-7, Friday-Sunday, 7pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sat. and Sun, “Noises Off,” called “the funniest farce ever written,” “Noises Off” presents a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called “Nothing’s On0”. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, a raucous love triangle, and an endless supply of errant sardines all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play, $15-$17, Schoolhouse Arts Center, 16 Richville Road, Standish. Apr. 5, Friday, 8pm, ‘Faculty Concert Series Among Friends: Music for Strings and Winds,” Thomas Parchman, Robert Lehmann and friends present an evening of string and wind chamber music. Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro for flute, clarinet, harp and string quartet showcases the harp in exquisite interplay with this varied ensemble. The addition of a second viola and cello to the ’standard’ string quartet allows for an almost orchestral sonority to overlay the intimacy of Brahms Sextet in B-flat. It would be difficult to find a work more richly varied and luscious than this masterpiece, $5-$15, Corthell Concert Hall, 37 College Ave, Gorham. Apr. 6, Saturday, 7pm, “Casco Bay Wind Symphony Spring Concert,” “Through a Child’s Eyes” featuring a wide variety of music related to children. Included in this evening of musical entertainment will be pieces by John Williams, Paul Hart, and Eric Whitacare. A great musical experience for the young and young at heart alike! Apr. 6, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Village Coffeehouse of New Gloucester,” Ronda Dale and her band perform original songs and cover adventures in rootsy Americana, including vintage country, blues, r & b, a touch of jazz, and any good song throughout the ages. The band includes: band leader, Ronda Dale, lead vocalist, songwriter, and rhythm acoustic guitar; Rob Babson, lead electric and acoustic guitars, harmonica, and harmony vox; Paul Mattor, stand-up bass and special guest percussionist Michael Wingfield. Ronda Dale is an exceptionally engaging performer and powerful vocalist with contagious enthusiasm for audience and repertoire. Her songwriting combines humor with passion and depth. Ronda is joined by her co-band leader and lead guitarist, R*ob Babson who expresses his creativity through guitar, songwriting and voice as well as bass, harmonica, banjo and ukulele. Paul Mattor supplies the stand-up bass with widely diverse styles from Finnish dances to surf rock, never straying too far from his traditional roots. Apr. 7, Sunday, 5pm, “Ed Reichert Musical Theatre Studio Recital,” the USM School of Music presents a recital featuring students studying musical theatre in the studio of Ed Reichert. This longer-than-usual Studio Recital will be chock full of upbeat solos, dazzling duets, a thrilling trio, an elegant quartet, and a set of gender bending performances you won’t want to miss!
