In 1879, Nora was a typical housewife and devoted mother, dependent on her husband for everything. Dissatisfied, she famously walked out the door in search of something more. Fifteen years later, Nora returns, a successful, independent feminist novelist. But is everyone happy to see her? This provocative, contemporary sort-of-sequel to Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, crackles with humor and intelligence, and is sure to keep you talking all the way home! Mar. 16, Saturday, 7pm, “The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra ‘Magical Movie Music’”, In our third series of the season the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Rohan Smith, presents “Magical Movie Music,” a program of movie music over the years. The program begins with music written for silent films by the famous silent film actor Charlie Chaplin. It continues with music from “The Adventures of Robin Hood”, “Casablanca” and “Gone With the Wind.” More recent scores include the suite for “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and the “Star Wars” suite, both by John Williams. As an added feature the Youth Orchestra of Lewiston Auburn (YOLA) will perform during the intermission in Heritage Hall where refreshments will be available, $20, free/18 and under and college students with ID, Gendron Franco Center, 46 Cedar Street, Lewiston. Mar. 16, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Potpourri: Colby Wind Ensemble,” directed by Eric Thomas, a showcase of music that is fun to play will be performed by Colby Wind Ensemble. Works include the spectacular Four Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold and the music of Man of La Mancha. J.S. Bach’s “Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor” and John Philip Sousa’s “I’ve Made My Plans for The Summer” with soprano soloist Sam Barry ’20 will also be performed, free, Lorimer Chapel, Colby College, 4000 Mayflower Hill, Waterville. Mar. 16, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Maine Event Comedy,” an evening of stand up comedy. Give your funny bone a workout as some of New England’s funniest comics take the stage and present their unique brand of humor. You’ll hear jokes about life in Maine, the meaning of life – and everything in between. Each show will feature three comedians, last for approximately 90 minutes. Mar. 17, Sunday, 3pm, “Richard Greenfield, Hiroya Miura, Frank Carlberg: Music & Poetry,” Richard Greenfield, author of three collections of poetry and a visitor to campus for a Literary Arts Live reading tomorrow, joins forces with composers Hiroya Miura, associate professor of music, and Frank Carlberg, artist in residence in the music department this year. Mar. 20, Wednesday, 7pm, “Harlem Globetrotters,” an exhibition basketball team. They combine athleticism, theater, and comedy in their style of play.
