Feb. 21, Thursday, 7pm, “Tales for the Vault,” using materials from our archives vault, history ranging from settlement days to a 20th century New Gloucester film will be shown, refreshments will be served, free, New Gloucester Meetinghouse, Route 231, New Gloucester. Feb. 21, Thursday, 8pm, “The Early Evening Show,” looking for a laugh-out-loud funny show you can bring the kids to? Maine’s renowned variety entertainer, Mike Miclon, is your host for “The Early Evening Show,” a spoof of late-night shows. This show now in it’s 20th year and has been performed from Maine to Switzerland. The show built its reputation with a 14-year run at the Oddfellow Theater in Buckfield. It’s the longest running live variety show in Maine. The Early Evening Show is still packing in crowds and bringing the house down! With improvisation, sketch comedy, music, lots of special guests and surprised, no two shows are ever alike. The cast brings their warm personality and goofy siense of fun to the stage and sometimes an unsuspecting audience member or tow. Feb. 23, Saturday, 11am-4pm, “Cabin Fever Reliever Living History Day at Norlands,” horse-drawn sleigh rides, craft activities, one-room schoolhouse where the schoolmaster will be ready to greet his scholars, and guided tours of the 1867 Washburn family home. Traditional ice cutting demonstrations take place on Bartlett Pond, just down the hill from the Norlands. Visitors can stop by the pond on their way to or from the Norlands. Special tribute to George Washington at 1pm for President’s Day, 1870. Stop by for a slice of cake and to participate in the celebration. In case of bad weather, this event will be canceled by 9am the day of the event. Feb. 23, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Dave Kobrenski and Jed Wilson,” Dave Kobrenski & Jed Wilson’s collaboration brings together traditional West African and contemporary American styles, creating a vibrant and eclectic musical ecosystem. Kobrenski will perform on traditional African flutes and string instruments, accompanied by Wilson on acoustic piano. Kobrenski and Wilson will be joined by Portland-based drummer Jacob Forbes. Woven into the evening are demonstrations of many of the instruments he learned to play while living in West Africa, including the Fulani flute, kamale ngoni (a 10-string Mande harp), djembe, and more. Feb. 24, Sunday, 2-4pm, “Snowshoe Hike on McCoy Chapman Forest,” come and explore MLT’s newest property, a magnificent 500-acre parcel that has it all – river frontage, streams, cascades and views! Feb. 24, Sunday, 5-8pm, “Opus One Big Band Dance/Auction for WHS Chamber Singers,” come join us for a fun evening dancing to the Opus One Big Band and listening to performances by Westbrook High School Chamber Singers.
