Feb. 16, Saturday, 1-4pm, “Snow Sculpting Day,” discover snow sculpting and all the beauty of creating art outdoors in winter right here in downtown Waterville this February! Families can play in the snow and create cool mini sculptures — let your imagination run wild. Special guest sculptors from Maine’s award-winning 2019 US National Snow Sculpting Competition team, The Carvivores, will be creating larger sculpted works at Quarry Road Trails off North Street in Waterville, so you’ll get a chance to learn a few tips from the ‘pros!’ We will have fun snow painting too, free, Quarry Road Trails, 200 Quarry Road, Waterville. Feb. 16, Saturday, 7-9pm, “Union Coffeehouse Mid-Winter Blahs Concert: Stan and Dan” Stan Keach and Dan Simons are an acoustic Bluegrass duo that plays in the style of the brother duets of the 1930’s and 40’s, a tradition that led to the invention of Bluegrass music. Their performances feature very tight vocal harmony and Dan’s virtuoso mandolin stylings. They demonstrate the applicability of the Brother Duet style to a wide variety of songs from folk and Bluegrass to rock and country genres. The entertaining duo also sings original songs (many of them about Maine topics) written by Stan, a nationally-known Bluegrass songwriter. As always, an Open Mic hour showcasing serendipitous performances by local artists follows Stan and Dan. Give your funny bone a workout as some of New England’s funniest comics take the stage and present their unique brand of humor. You’ll hear jokes about life in Maine, the meaning of life – and everything in between. Each show will feature three comedians, last for approximately 90 minutes and include one intermission. Feb. 17, Sunday, 7pm, “Mainely Improv,” on the Spot Comedy, one of Maine’s most popular improvisational troupes, brings its madcap antics to the Baxter Brewing Company in Lewiston.
