Jan. 19-20, Saturday-Sunday, 7pm/Sat, 2pm/Sun,“Mid-Winter One Act Festival,” featuring two original plays created by USM students. The first one-act is titled “The Mountain,” a tale of self-discovery. The second is “The Fairy Tale Unit,” a parody of TV police detective programs that will keep you laughing. Jan. 20, Sunday, 9:30am/start time, “Ski Biathlon,” the first ski biathlon of the season at Roberts Farm Preserve is scheduled for Sunday January 20th. Two race distances are offered: 3 x 1k and 3 x 2k. Air rifles are provided. Skis (classic only), boots, and poles may also be provided on site. $10 registration fee, $5 for any members of the Viking Middle or HS Nordic teams. The sport of biathlon involves three skiing laps interspersed with two 5-shot target sessions. Both ski and target techniques are supported, endurance and accuracy are rewarded. Registration and air- rifle target practice will be offered 9:30-10:45. Jan. 20, Sunday, 7:30pm, “An Evening of Afri-Carribean Music with Raging Brass,” Raging Brass is a 7-piece band collectively creating Afro-Caribbean music. We are a brass-roots dance band following the musical migration from West Africa to Cuba, Jamaica, and Brazil with the spirit of New Orleans. This eclectic group was established in 2014 by trumpeter and bandleader Marc Chillemi in Southern Maine. Raging Brass explores roots music fueled by the rhythmic and melodic intuition of each player in the styles of Afro-Beat, Ska, Soukous, Highlife, Rocksteady, Roots Reggae, Samba, Cumbia, and Salsa.
