“Russian Concert & Art Exhibit with the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble,” Christ Church, Kennebunk

Dec. 13, Thursday, 7pm, “Buxton Garden Club presents an Interactive Christmas,” Buxton Garden Club presents an interactive Christmas featuring the talents of Janet Johnson of Maine Street Florist and her wonderful assistants. They will walk us through the creation of beautiful holiday floral arrangements that will be auctioned off at the end of the demonstration. These displays will be assembled from start to finish with questions welcomed from attendees as they are put together. Come learn some of the tricks of the trade from our own local florists so you can create jaw dropping displays! This teaching demonstration starts promptly at 7:00 and will follow with a delightful array of snacks and refreshments. For those wishing to learn more about becoming a member of the garden club, feel free to join us afterwards for a short business meeting. This event is open to the public. Dec. 13, Thursday, 7pm, “Russian Concert & Art Exhibit,” the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble, a highly polished a capella quartet who will be presenting a varied program ranging from traditional Russian music to popular Christmas songs. Highly trained and educated vocalists Kirill Sokolov, Sergey Shapinsky, Andrei Volikov, and Vadim Smantser formed the group in 2003 to expand the known limits of vocal music. With just four performers, they present complex works generally performed by much larger groups. Their repertoire encompasses various epochs and styles, from ancient Russian chants to Western European chorales to contemporary compositions, along with Russian folk songs, and secular and religious music. The ensemble will have CD’s and Russian souvenirs available for purchase immediately after the concert. The people of Christ Church are also pleased and excited to offer an exhibition of traditional Russian art along with the concert. Master Iconographer Marina Forbes, who was granted Awards for Artistic Excellence by The National Endowment for the Art in 2013, 2014 and 2015, will display a variety of framed paintings in the Russian orthodox tradition, available for purchase (average price $150). Dec. 14, Friday, 7pm, “Welcome Yule: Concert and Carol Sing Along,” a wide selection of international holiday music for Voice, Trumpet and Organ, plus a series of favorite carols and Christmas standards for audience participation, $10/suggested donation, Second Congregational Church, 19 Crescent Street, Biddeford. Dec. 14, Friday, 7pm, “Yuletide Concert with Great Bay Sailor,” Great Bay Sailor returns to Old York with a unique and heartfelt presentation of holiday music, including songs of Brittany and Ireland, carols of the British Restoration, ancient ceremonial marches, “pub carols” and music hall ditties, settings from the Anglican Ceremony of Carols, Christmas music with an Appalachian accent, and lovely tunes and airs—all guaranteed to make the season dance! The Sailors are also story-tellers, relating the narrative, history, and traditions of seasonal music from all over the globe. Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated “Bah!
