“Silent Nights-New Renaissance Singers Winter Concert,” Universal Universalist Society of Bangor

Dec. 14, Friday, 7pm, “Silent Nights-New Renaissance Singers Winter Concert,” celebrating the 200th anniversary of the song ‘Silent Night’, New Renaissance Singers are pleased to invite you to their winter concert! Directed by Molly Webster and accompanied by Dora Rexrode, this event is sure to be a highlight of the season! Dec. 14, Friday, 6pm, “The Night Before the Night Before Christmas,” presented by the Piscataquis Community High School Drama Club, a two-act comedy by Pat Cook. Dec. 15, Saturday, 6:30pm, “Winter Solstice Singers presents ‘A Winter Solstice Celebration’,” The Winter Solstice Singers, a community-based choral group, will present “A Winter Solstice Celebration in Song and Ceremony.” More than 20 local voices, from the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor’s choir, Women With Wings, and community friends, will perform at the celebration. The event is family-friendly and interactive, including singing and story-telling. The performance consists of a series of songs, many of them simple chants and rounds, some more complex. Most of the music is sung a Capella, and a few pieces have piano and drumming accompaniment. Dec. 16, Sunday, 4pm, “Carols in the Round,” the Chamber Singers from Mount View High School in Thorndike, Maine, will perform “Carols in the Round.” Under the direction of Rebecca Childs, the Chamber Singers have concertized in venues ranging from Ground Zero and the Crystal Cathedral, to the White House. “Carols in the Round” has become a popular tradition for many concert goers across the state of Maine every year, free, Hammond Street Congregational Church, 28 High Street, Bangor. Dec. 16, Sunday, 6pm, “I Know a Man…Ashley Bryan,” a film about the life of a 94-year-old poet/illustrator who creates magical art from his Cranberry Islands home. Bryan served in a World War II all-Black battalion, where he experienced the racism of a separatist Army and the carnage of D-Day. As a result he dedicated his life to creating beauty and joy. He has written over 50 children’s books and makes puppets and sea-glass windows from found objects, free, Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96 Harlow St, Suite 100, Bangor.
