Winner of the Maine Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award, Songwriter of the Year, eight-time winner of Instrumentalist of the Year, and the youngest inductee to the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame. Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated “Bah! Humbug!” Thanks to the guidance of three ghosts, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful “Happy Christmas,” City Theater, 205 Main Street, Biddeford. Dec. 1-2, Saturday-Sunday, 9am-8pm/Sat, 9am-1pm, “Santa Paws Fest,” Vinegar Hill Music Theater in Arundel is hosting a benefit for Lucky Pup Rescue, a nonprofit out of Kennebunkport with a mission of finding homes for dogs in need. It’s called “Santa Paws Fest.” It’s going to be a 2-day party for humans and their pups where you can dance the day away to live music, have fun decorating gingerbread dogs, get your (and your furry friend’s) picture with Santa, enjoy a hot cocoa while you get your face painted or make a wreath and sip on some cider and more. You’ll also have an opportunity to sponsor a holiday gift for a pup in the foster care program at the Lucky Pup Awareness Station. There will be info there about adoptable dogs and rescue needs. You can even adopt a tree as part of the Adopt-a-Tree Festival, with trees and wreaths decorated by local businesses and supporters. Dec. 2, Sunday, 2pm, “Ogunquit Performing Arts Classic Film Series presents ‘The Nutcracker’,” legendary dancer Rudolph Nureyev, starring in his own production of “The Nutcracker” with The Royal Ballet, London, co-starring Merle Park. Filmed in full color at the Royal Opera House by the BBC, this historic performance from 1968 captures Rudolph Nureyev at the peak of his career, seven years after his dramatic defection from the Soviet Union in Paris’ Le Bourget Airport while on tour with the Marinsky Ballet. At the time, Nureyev was quickly offered a contract with London’s Royal Ballet, where he began his famous partnership with Margot Fonteyn, and also immediately began to re-choreograph the company’s most traditional ballets, free, The Dunaway Center, 23 School Street, Ogunquit.
