Nov. 30, Friday, 7:30pm, “Campbell Brothers Sacred Steel Christmas,” a compelling, rich variety of material from the African-American Holiness-Pentecostal repertoire with a new twist: the growling, wailing, shouting, singing and swinging voice of the steel guitar, played as you have never heard it played before. Nov. 30-Dec. 2, Friday-Sunday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2:30pm/Sun, “Freeport Players Home Time Radio Hour,” Radio is a traditional start to the holiday season for many families, and is the largest fundraiser for the Freeport Players. This is the 14th year for this popular group which formed in 1989. This year, the variety show, which features a cast of more than 40 singers, actors, and musicians, features the music of the 1960s British Invasion. This year’s production is directed by new Freeport Players Executive Director Janie Downey Maxwell. Music Directors Daric Ebert, Ellen Ebert, and Jane Bradley lead a 4-piece band that includes a guitar, bass guitar, piano, and drums. “This show is a gem of a community production,” says director Janie Downey Maxwell. “We feature some of the best singing talent and musicians in the area. And the skits are fun and funny.” The “Sound Effects Ladies” will once again be a featured part of the show. “A lot of people get to the show early just to get seats near the Sound Effects Ladies, Maryellen Carew and Sam Hunneman. Led by artistic director Linda Blanchard and accompanist Sean Fleming, the concert will also feature several jazzy arrangements of hit tunes such as “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Little Jack Frost Get Lost,” “Here Comes Santa Claus,” and more!
