Nov. 15-17, Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm, “Once on This Island,” presented by Centre Stage Ensemble, from the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Seussical, Ragtime), comes the Olivier Award-winning Once on This Island. This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.Ti Moune, a peasant girl, rescues a wealthy boy from the other side of the island, Daniel, with whom she falls in love. Nov. 17, Saturday, 8:30am-2pm, “Gingerbread Fair,” the fair will feature our famous themed gift baskets and homemade pies. Silent auction offers art, antiques, and gift certificates from Orphan Annie’s, Mother India and more. Also available are handmade crafts, custom wreaths, baked goods, jewelry, books & CDs (sorry, our White Elephant is in the spring). Also we will be selling hotdogs, drinks and raffle tickets to win a basket filled with items from each crafter, free, Viles Arboretum, 153 Hospital Street, Augusta. Nov. 17, Saturday, 9am-3pm, “Messalonskee Craft Fair,” this popular community event helps to benefit the robotics team and provide monetary support for this important STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) program. Over 50 local craftsmen, artists and exhibitors will be showcasing their hand-crafted items just in time for the holiday season. Also for sale will be a variety of delicious homemade food and beverages sponsored by various high school classes. In addition, raffle tickets will be sold to earn chances to win hand-crafted items donated from our exhibitors. Raffle tickets will be sold at the craft fair. We thank our past attendees and vendors as this annual event is made possible by your support. Nov. 17, Saturday, 9:45am, “Annual Turkey Trot,” Looking for a healthy activity around the holidays? Join the University of Maine at Farmington Fitness and Recreation Center’s 11th annual Turkey Trot. This seasonal community fitness activity event features 5K and 10K road races and a 1-mile Kids Fun Run (10 and under.) The Kid’s Fun Run starts at 9:45 a.m. and the 5K and 10K Turkey Trot start at 10:15 a.m. Childcare is provided for children of parents running in the races by the FRC staff. Registration is required to participate and can be done in advance or on race day. Pre-registration can be done online at http://runinarace.com/FRCTurkeyTrot/index.html or with a walk-in, mail-in form found at frc.umf.maine.edu. Pre-registration ends Thursday, Nov. 15. Race day registration is from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the FRC. Registration for the 5K is $20 on race day, $15 in advance. The 10K is $25 on race day, $20 in advance. The 5K for UMF student with I.D. is $15 on race day, $10 in advance. The 10K for UMF students with I.D. is $20 on race day, $15 in advance. The Kids Fun Run registration is $8 on race day and $5 in advance. Proceeds will go to support the FRC’s healthy community mission.
