Aug. 27, Monday, 7:30pm, “Anna Tivel and Niall Connoly,” ANNA TIVEL has spent some quality hours in a dodge caravan repeating lyrical lines over and over until the words fall in time with the windshield wipers, or until the gas light comes on. An internationally touring artist with a deep love of quiet stories, Anna is beginning to carve a place for herself in the songwriting world. She was chosen a winner of both the Telluride Troubadour Contest and the Kerrville New Folk Contest and has shared the stage with heroes and friends like Gregory Alan Isakov, Blind Pilot, Anais Mitchell, Mason Jennings, Mandolin Orange, Sean Rowe, Darlingside, Peter Mulvey, John Doe, Jeffrey Martin, and lots more. “Everything here is testament to her storytelling gifts (shes been likened to Steinbeck and I suspect she may have a novel or short stories collection in her) with her finely drawn characters and observations of an emotional life that ranges from defiance to regret, joy to sadness.” Folk Radio UK NIALL CONNOLLY is a cork-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Niall who brings the urgency to folk and the finely-crafted story to indie rock. Born in 1977, alongside the birth of punk, his work bears evidence of the roots and influences that made him a songwriter: early years listening to Nirvana on the Walkman, Leonard Cohen on his sister’s stereo, and the steady stream of bands and songwriters emerging from the 1990’s Cork music scene. He blends a riveting sound with layered, literate lyrics that generously reward the listener. Niall has had the great pleasure of playing festivals, embassies, theaters and dive bars all over the world including Glastonbury, the Prague Fringe Festival, and CMJ. He has had the privilege of sharing the stage with the luminaries in his band and in the Big City Folk music scene, as well as MisterWives, Lambchop, Evan Dando, Mick Flannery, Glen Hansard, and John Spillane, to name a few. He has also collaborated with such poets as Neil McCarthy, Stephen Murray, and Billy Ramsell in various Voice and Verse projects. “Niall Connolly rocks. His brand of Storm The Castle music blows me away every time.” – Ken Rockwood, Rockwood Music Hall, NYC, $15/online, $20/door, $10/student ID, Hayloft at Dragonfly Barn, 95 Sanborns Grove Road, Bridgton.
