“Forelle Trio Chamber Music Concert,” Surry Arts and Events Barn, Surry

Aug. 23, Thursday, 7:30pm, “William Porter Organ Concert,” William Porter of Rochester, NY, who will present an evening of improvisations on Maine’s largest 19th-century mechanical-action pipe organ, E. & G. G. Hook’s magnificent Opus 288. Widely known as a performer in the United States and in Europe, William Porter has also achieved international recognition for his skill in improvisation in a wide variety of styles both ancient and modern. Recently retired as Professor of Organ, Harpsichord and Improvisation (2002-2013) at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. He also was a member of the faculty of music at McGill University in Montreal, where he lived from 2004 until fall of 2015. He has also taught at Yale University, New England Conservatory and Oberlin College. He has performed at major international festivals and academies, and has recorded on historic instruments, old and new, for the Gasparo, Proprius, BMG and Loft labels. Now residing in Rochester, NY, he has returned to the Eastman School of Music as part-time Professor of Organ, free, donations appreciated, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor. Aug. 23, Thursday, 8pm, “Denny Breau,” wide range of music styles. He mixes genres with ease — folk, Delta blues, country and jazz. Denny is the son of RCA Victor recording artists Hal Lone Pine and Betty Cody, and the younger brother of Lenny Breau who was voted one of the 25 greatest guitar players of all-time by Guitar Magazine, free, in event of rain concerts will be held at the Elks Lodge, Hathorn Park, 112 Somerset Avenue, Pittsfield. Aug. 24, Friday, 7pm, “Lock Box Trio-Plus One,” please join us for this exceptional Jazz offering featuring three of the most dynamic and talented young Jazzer musicians from the Downeast area. They will be performing a program of jazz standards as well as original tunes.
