Ingalls (Foster) Pond a Humble, Relaxing Lakefront Experience

“View of Ingalls Pond from Access Point”

Ingalls Pond, also known as Foster Pond, is a quaint body of water nestled between the towns of Naples and Sebago in South Bridgton. Its location makes it ideal for those looking to have quick access to the attractions offered by the larger, surrounding lakes but prefer a more tranquil place to reside. The pond spans just over 141 acres and is 2.5 miles in perimeter. It is relatively shallow, with a mean depth of 17 feet and a maximum depth of 28 feet. Invasive plant species are not an issue, and its water quality has been rated as above-average.
Ingalls Pond does not allow motorboats that exceed 10 horsepower and its shoreline is mostly undeveloped, making it a lovely retreat for canoers and kayakers. It features warm water as well as some cold water fishing, and is stocked with brook trout each spring. It has been considered one of the best smallmouth bass lakes in the Bridgton area, and is also known for its yellow perch, chain pickerel, rainbow smelt, and hornpout.
The hiking trails of Holt Pond Preserve and Bald Pate Mountain Preserve are only a short distance from the shoreline of Ingalls Pond, as are the cross country skiing trails at Five Fields Apple Farm, providing year-round opportunities for outdoor recreation. Holt Pond Preserve offers 5.3 miles of trails through wetland and upland habitats while the trail network of Bald Pate Mountain Preserve totals 6.7 miles and includes views from the top of Bald Pate, which has an elevation of 1100 feet. Pleasant Mountain, home to the popular Shawnee Peak Ski Resort, is just 20 minutes away.
The town of Naples, best known for its Causeway, which features a number of eateries, live music, shops, and marina, is 4 miles from Ingalls Pond. It is also home to the Songo River Queen, a replica of the famous Mississippi River Paddle Wheelers. The Queen is available for cruises on Long Lake throughout the summer season. 10 miles down Route 302 from the Naples Causeway lies the town of Bridgton and its historic downtown village. Here one can find shops, restaurants, and a movie theater.
Ingalls Pond promises a humble, relaxing lakefront experience despite its proximity to local attractions. In this sense, it offers the best of both worlds!
