July 5-7, Thursday-Saturday, 2:30pm/Thurs. and Sat, 8pm/Thurs.-Sat, “Oklahoma,” join the Ogunquit Playhouse for the beloved classic Oklahoma! celebrating its 75th Anniversary since first opening on Broadway. This groundbreaking musical was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, and in many ways was their most innovative, having set standards for musical theatre that are still being followed today. The original designs and choreography from Cameron Mackintosh’s London and Broadway revival of Oklahoma!, that made Hugh Jackman a star, will be featured in this lavish production. The high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys living in Western Indian Territory at the turn of the twentieth century, provide the colorful setting for Curly, the confident cowboy, and Laurey, the beautiful, head-strong farm girl, to play out their love story. Throw in a fierce rival vying for Laurey’s attention, one flirtatious fiancée, a reluctant suitor, magnificent choreography and one of the most beautiful musical scores ever written and you have a recipe for a rip roaring good time! July 6, Friday, 8pm, “The Subdudes,” led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist, John Magnie, The Subdudes draw most of their inspiration from the sounds of their native New Orleans, blending blues, gospel, funk, and R&B with their own harmony vocals; their sound is also notable for the band’s substitution of a tambourine player, Steve Amedée, for a drummer. July 10, Tuesday, 6:30pm, “Mainly Ticks,” Bob Maurais from Mainely Ticks will share strategies to better protect your family from ticks and tick-borne diseases. Items discussed will include personal protection strategies, landscape modifications and the life cycle of the deer tick. A 50 minute presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer period – stay as long as you like. July 11, Wednesday, 7:30pm, “The Best of Broadway,” not a dance recital, “The Best of Broadway” features nearly 75 child, teen and adult dancers from southern Maine and beyond who perform Broadway favorites from yesterday and today.
