“Vernal Pool Exploration at Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve,” Bangor

May 24, Thursday, 7pm, “Macbeth-NT Live Broadcast,” National Theatre Live will broadcast Manchester International Festival’s electrifying production of Macbeth, with Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn, Hamlet) in his first Shakespeare performance in over a decade as Macbeth, and Alex Kingston (Doctor Who, ER) as Lady Macbeth. May 26, Saturday, 9am-12pm, “Vernal Pool Exploration at Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve,” meet at the Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve’s Kittredge Road kiosk at 9 a.m. for a mile hike through the preserve to an active vernal pool. Salamander eggs were found there on May 16 so we may see aquatic salamander larvae or wood frog tadpoles. There should be other aquatic insects there as well. Wear good hiking shoes and be prepared for bugs but please note that bug sprays are harmful to the pool’s contents. The hike and exploration should last 2 to 2.5 hours. May 27, Sunday, 2pm, “Earth, Moon & Sun,” a fast-paced full dome demonstration of lunar phases, eclipses, day and night, the sun and other puzzling events with the help of a confused coyote. It beautifully illustrates basic concepts like Moon phases and seasons. Based on the trickster of Native American lore, Coyote is constantly corrected in his misunderstandings of how things work.
