Apr. 7, Saturday, 10-11am, “Meet the Artist-Sheila O’Neil Clough,” Sheila O’Neil Clough will be on hand to showcase and answer your questions about her. Light refreshments will be available. Lisa will be our featured artist for the month of April. While the work of artist Sheila O’Neil Clough includes many genres her roots in illustration are clearly evident in the majority of her pieces. A versatile artist who was classically trained in a wide variety of mediums, she has worked almost exclusively in water media, both watercolor and acrylic, for the past two decades. Subject matter, selected form her native New England environment, is portrayed with dynamic composition, a masterful use of color and value as well as a fine attention to detail. Born in Boston, MA the daughter of an art educator and granddaughter of a Boston artist, her talent was recognizes, encouraged and developed early. Formal training began when, at the age of nine, she was enrolled in Saturday classes at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, MA. which she continued throughout her childhood. Clough attended Massachusetts College of Art, where she earned a BFA with a concentration in Fashion Design and illustration, free, Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library, 952 Main Street, Sanford. Apr. 8, Sunday, 2pm, “Ogunquit Performing Arts’ 17th Classic Film Series,” starring Montgomery Cliff, Elizabeth Taylor, and Shelley Winters. This stunning film was a critical and commercial success, winning six Academy Awards, (including Best Director for George Stevens), and the first-ever Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Stevens directed the film from a screenplay by Harry Brown and Michael Wilson. Its supporting actors include Anne Revere and Raymond Burr. The film is based on Theodore Dreiser’s 1925 novel, An American Tragedy, the story of the real-life murder of a poor, pregnant factory girl by her social-climbing fiance. It had been filmed by Josef Von Sternberg in 1931, starring Sylvia Sidney, Phillips Holmes and Frances Dee. George Stevens’ 1951 version, “A Place in the Sun” focused more on the developing romance between the man and the rich girl, and changed the poor girl’s death to an accident, but maintained the psychological motivations and class distinctions of the novel, popcorn and free parking, free, The Dunaway Center, 23 School Street, Ogunquit. Apr. 8, Sunday, 2:30pm, “Fidelio Ensemble,” Phillips Academy Andover’s auditioned mixed a cappella choir. Fidelio’s twenty-two singers hail from every corner of the world and are between the ages of 14-18. Many of the singers are top leaders in Phillip’s renowned musical community. Dr. Siegfried leads this talented, diverse ensemble in enthusiastic, high caliber performances. On tour the choir has performed in China, San Francisco, Spain, New York City and various New England venues. Apr. 10, Tuesday, 6:30pm, “Susan Poulin, Actress, Author & Storyteller,” Actress, author, and storyteller Susan Poulin will be reading from and signing copies of her “self-help” humor books, Finding Your Inner Moose: Ida LeClair’s Guide to Livin’ the Good Life and The Sweet Life: Ida LeClair’s Guide to Love and Marriage. Both books are written by Poulin as her alter-ego, Ida LeClair, “the funniest woman in Maine.” Poulin introduced the ground-breaking stage character Ida LeClair in the original 1997 stage production, Ida: Woman Who Runs With the Moose, for which she won Seacoast Media Group’s Spotlight on the Arts Award for Best Play and Best Actress. Since her initial success, Poulin has written two books, Finding Your Inner Moose and The Sweet Life as her alter-ego, and penned additional stage plays, including Ida: Woman Who Runs With the Moose, Ida’s Havin’ a Yard Sale, A Very Ida Christmas and her newest show, Makin’ Whoopie!. She also writes the popular humor blog, Just Ask Ida, and her vocal stylings can be heard regularly on her podcast of the same name.
