Mar. 1, Thursday, 7pm, “Full Moon Walk,” the Eastern Trail Alliance hosts an evening walk to see the full moon from the trail with Biologist and Trustee Joe Yuhas, all ages welcome but furry friends and flashlights are not, free, meet at Southern Maine Health Care Center, West Cole Road, back parking lot, Biddeford. Mar. 1, Thursday, 7pm, “Michelle Cacho-Negrete and Jenny Doughty-Authors Talk,” Author Michelle Cacho-Negrete and poet Jenny Doughty will read from their works and speak about their writing. Jenny Doughty has lived in Maine since 2002 and serves as President of the Maine Poets Society. A former English teacher and Education Adviser to Penguin Books in the UK, she has published short stories, articles, and poems in various publications both in the U.S. and in Britain. Her first poetry collection, “Sending Bette Davis to the Plumber”, was published by Moon Pie Press in the fall. Michelle Cacho-Negrete is a retired social worker and now full-time writer who lives in Portland Maine. She was born in a Brooklyn ghetto and many of her essays are about that experience. Her work is widely anthologized. Four of her essays have been selected as Notable Essays of the Year, six of her essays have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes and Street Kid was a runner-up in the Brooklyn Literary Arts Contest. She has had more than forty pieces published in print and on line journals. “Stealing: Life in America” which has received glowing reviews, is her first book of collected essays. Mar. 3, Saturday, 7pm, “An Evening with Lou Barlow,” 2018 finds Lou without obligations to his bands and ready to bring acoustic guitars and his extensive back-catalogue on the road for a series of intimate solo performances. Requests will be taken, stories will be told and Lou will be in the best setting to share the emotionally direct, melodic songs he’s known for, $23-$50, Engine, 128 Main Street, Biddeford. Mar. 4, Sunday, 6am/event begins, “Alfred Parks and Rec Fishing Derby,” please Join Alfred Parks and Rec for their Annual Kids Fishing Derby!! Derby is held at Shaker Pond in Alfred. This is a free event And is for kids ages 15 and under. There will be raffles and prizes given out throughout the day. Trophies for the winner of each age group. Mar. 4, Sunday, 2pm, “Friendly Persuasion,” The fifth film in Ogunquit Performing Arts’ Classic Film Series is Friendly Persuasion, William Wyler’s beautifully made film about a Quaker family whose values are tested during the Civil War. The film stars Gary Cooper, Dorothy McGuire and Anthony Perkins, all delivering warm and winning performances. Friendly Persuasion (1956) focuses on the Birdwells, a peaceful family of Quakers who are thrust into the Civil War when a band of Confederates known as Morgan’s Raiders threatens their town. The eldest son, Josh, (Anthony Perkins) hears a plea for young men to help fight off the marauders and begins to question the anti-war, anti-violence values of his religion. His mother Eliza (Dorothy McGuire) is against him going to battle, but his father, Jess, (Gary Cooper), a man of moral courage and understanding, recognizes his son’s need to work out his conflict and side with a just cause. When Josh is wounded in battle, his father goes into the war zone to save him.
