Mar. 2, Friday, 6:30pm, “Jason Tardy, Juggler,” a combination of many years of relentless practice and virtually no social life. How else could he pull off standing on a yoga ball, juggling an ax, spiked mace, and toilet plunger, while reciting the alphabet forward and backwards at the same time? He also performs innovative choreographed juggling to music, fitting his body through a tennis racket, and if you can trust him enough he will perform fire eating, fire breathing and fire juggling, $5-$6, Bruce M. Whittier Middle School, 1457 Main Street, Poland. FMI: 207-998-5400, atypicalentertainment.com.

Mar. 2, Friday, 7:30pm, “Bradley Backstage: The Bradley Jazz Collective,” we are thrilled to welcome back the very first Bradley Backstage act, The Bradley Jazz Collective! The band, comprised of Craig Bryan (drums), Al Hospers (bass), Mimi Rohlfing (vocals), Mike Sakash (saxophone), and Jed Wilson (piano), will be performing the music of Thelonious Monk in celebration of the year that would’ve marked his 100th birthday. Monk was one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. The late pianist wrote about 70 songs during his career — many of which have become standards, including the most recorded jazz composition of all time, “Round Midnight.” Bradley Backstage concerts “flip” the theater and seat the audience on stage with the performers, creating a much more intimate and unforgettable live concert experience. The lobby and box office will be open at 6:30 pm, $15/adult, $5/students, Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center, 18 Bradley Street, Fryeburg. FMI: 207-935-9232, www.fryeburgacademy.org.
Mar. 2-4 and 5pm, Friday-Sunday and Wednesday, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sat, 5pm/Sun. and Wed, “A Man of No Importance,” USM School of Music and Department of Theatre spring musical, In 1964 Dublin, Ireland, bus conductor Alfie Byrne shares his passion for theater by reciting poetry to his passengers, and directing a troupe of players in the basement of St. Imelda’s Catholic Church. The trouble begins when Alfie decides to produce his favorite playwright Oscar Wilde’s scandalous play, Salome. The church simply can’t allow such heathen decadence to be performed, even in the basement. During the course of a tumultuous rehearsal process, Alfie learns that the theatre is not a place to hide from the world, but instead the very place where we may finally discover our true selves. As author Terrance McNally writes, “The small world of the St. Imelda’s Players becomes an enormous one and I would be surprised if you did not find at least a small part of your world in theirs.” Indeed, you will see that Alfie Byrne is a man of great importance, $22, $10/students, $6/seniors, Russell Hall, USM, 37 College Avenue, Gorham.
