Feb. 22, Thursday, 10am, “Children’s Songs with Rob Duquette,” beloved and local musician Rob Duquette will perform music for the whole family. His songs incorporate various world music genres and are infused with important lessons about kindness, empathy, and environmental responsibility. Feb. 22, Thursday, 10:30am, “York History Series: Statehood 1785-1820 Part 4,” York Historian James Kences will present the fourth in this series about the history of York. This session will cover: the toll of the Revolution on the town; the turbulent years of the Confederation that serve as prelude to the Constitution and the new government of the United States; the French Revolution and two decades of war in Europe; the rise of Portland as a center of commerce; York begins to surrender its authority as county seat to Alfred; and Maine’s success in achieving statehood in the years after the War of 1812. Feb. 26, Monday, 6:30pm, “First Ladies Man-Author Andrew Ich,” Author Andrew Och will be at McArthur Library on Monday, February 26 at 6:30 to discuss his second book on the First Ladies of the United States. Unusual for Their Time: On the Road with America’s First Ladies, Volume Two picks up the where his first book left off, with Edith Roosevelt, wife of President Teddy Roosevelt. It concludes with Melania Trump, current First Lady. In 2012, Och began his travelling the U.S. to unravel the stories of every First Lady. He is an award winning television producer and the researcher behind the C-Span series, “First Ladies: Influence and Image”, which aired in 2013-2014 to tremendous critical acclaim. Andrew Och’s background as a historian and author, blend with his travel experiences to make his talks both educational and entertaining.
