The kids escape to a virtual world where they play a video game defending their neighborhood from zombies, while the parents struggle to maintain a connection to their children. Sept. 29, Friday, 8pm, “Kimberly Lehmann, Viola and Chiharu Naruse, piano,” opening faculty concert featuring the viola, the lush alto voice of the violin family, in works to include Schubert, Bach, Bax and Prokofiev. This program will include pieces that Ms. Lehmann has wanted to play for some time, especially the Franz Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, D 821. The arpeggione is an interesting 6 string instrument that was invented in 1823. The instrument was tuned like a guitar and bowed like a cello, but only enjoyed a career of about 10 years. Since then, it’s music is primarily performed on either the viola or cello. Also on the program will be Gamba Sonata, BWV 1029, by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), Sonata for Violin and Piano by Arnold Bax (1883-1953) and Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953), arranged by Vadim Borisovsky, $5-$15, Corthell Concert Hall, USM, 37 College Avenue, Gorham. Sept. 30, Saturday, 11am-4pm, “Maine Lakes Brewfest,” this 21-plus event features live music, over 35 brewers and 15 vendors to satisfy your appetite. The event originated in Casco Village with a handful of local brewers and drew a crowd of around 300. It has now grown to be the premier beer festival in the area, with attendance last year of over 3,100. The brewers will be offering almost 100 varieties of beer and wine for customers to sample. There will also be two live bands, and local favorite, Chad Porter will be a guest entertainer in the Pavillion from 1-3pm. The food vendors will offer everything from hot dogs, burgers, hot wings, chili, wood-fired pizza, sausage and pulled pork sandwiches, oysters, and Maine lobster rolls. Oct. 2, Monday, 8pm, “Robert Cray Band,” five-time Grammy Award winner and a Blues Hall of Famer, if you haven’t seen ‘em you have to…if you already have, you know you miss ‘em! Blues guitarist and singer, all the accolades in the world will not do justice to his live show. This one of the artist you’ve got to see.
