“Kennebec Valley Chordsmen Annual Barbershop Harmony Show,” Thomas College, Waterville

Sept. 29, Friday, 5:30pm, “Waterville Rocks! w/Bella’s Bartok and West End Blend,” Waterville Rocks! is a series of four outdoor concerts presented by the Waterville Opera House for the enjoyment of the greater Waterville community. At these concerts, families and friends gather in historic downtown Waterville, lay down a blanket in Castonguay Square, listen to awesome local music, and dance and socialize with others in the community. Established in 2016 by local business leaders and arts-focused organizations, Waterville Rocks! is becoming an annual community celebration of all-things-music held in the great outdoors. This year Waterville Rocks! is expanding its offerings with a new beer garden, giving adults of age extra incentive to come out and listen to excellent music, free, Castonguay Square, 93 Main Street, Waterville. Sept. 30, Saturday, 10am-2pm, “Fall Fair and Luncheon,” the event will include local crafters tables, vendors, a church bake sale and a Luncheon which will be served from 11:00 to 1:00.The cost for the lunch is $6.00 for Adults and $3.00 for ages 5 to 12. The menu will include chicken salad sandwiches, variety of Quiche, homemade applesauce, waldorf salad and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. The proceeds of the Fair will help fund the Steeple Project that the church is currently renovating. Sept. 30, Saturday, 2pm and 7pm, “Kennebec Valley Chordsmen Annual Barbershop Harmony Show,” this year’s theme will be World War II era and patriotic songs in honor of the music and patriotism during this important time in our country’s history. The Show will also include guest chorus Maine-ly Harmony women’s barbershop chorus from Augusta, as well as chorus quartets and our feature quartet Exchange St, from the greater Portland area, who have won the Northeastern District championship of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Sept. 30, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Carol Noonan and the Guitar Gods – Duke Levine and Kevin Barry,” Carol Noonan is known foremost as a contemporary singer-song writer, but is also known for her haunting renditions of Irish, English, and American traditionals. Carol is the owner and Director of the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, Maine. Best known as an MVP for hire by Peter Wolf, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and others, Duke Levine has an encyclopedic knowledge of blues, R&B, rock, pop, and jazz that informs his musicianship, $25, Johnson Hall, 280 Water Street, Gardiner. Sept. 30, Saturday, 8pm, “Maine Event Comedy: Johnny Ater,” the show will also feature Portland’s Colby Bradshaw and Boston’s John Sucich and Kathleen DeMarle. Whether he’s taking light-hearted swipes at himself and his fellow Mainers, or contorting his face into hilarious characters, Ater has left audiences laughing throughout New England and beyond since 2003. He’s performed at the Punchline in San Francisco and headlined the Maine Comedy Festival. Ater has also appeared on ‘The Nite Show with Danny Cashman’ and provided voice-over work for an Agren Appliance television campaign.Bradshaw’s charm and deadpan delivery have been on display at New York CIty’s Gotham Comedy Club. He earned first place at Empire’s Comedy Winter Classic in Portland and will open for nationally touring comedian Juston McKinney in November.Sucich was a recent selection to the Cleveland Comedy Festival. Oct. 1, Sunday, 7:30pm, “Gail Archer,” internationally renowned concert organist and recording artist Gail Archer releases her eighth solo album A Russian Journey (TBR 09.25.17 Meyer Media) featuring works by 19th and 20th Century Russian composers including members of the Russian Five and their successors. Featuring hidden Russian gems from the organ canon, A Russian Journey enthralls listeners with Archer’s musicality, sensitivity, and visceral quality.
