Sept. 7-9, Thursday-Saturday, 6pm, “Gypsy Lew Theater presents: Twelfth Night in the Plaza,” as part of Lewiston Public Library’s Ye Olde Shakespeare week, Gypsy Lew Theater Company is excited to bring a little Shakespeare in the Park to Lewiston, with a production of one of the Bard’s greatest comedies, Twelfth Night, or What You Will! When Viola is separated from her twin brother after a shipwreck, believing he is dead, she assumes the identity of a male and becomes entangled in a messy love triangle. For this tale, we are travelling to late 1950s San Francisco, the center of beatnik culture; deep poetic thought and melancholy are all the rage, so prepare the bongos and Allen Ginsberg for this hilarious tale about love, mistaken identity, and finding yourself. Sept. 7-9, Thursday-Saturday, 8pm, “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery,” get our deerstalker cap on – the play’s afoot! Sherlock Holmes is on the case. The male heirs of the Baskerville line are being dispatched one by one. To find their ingenious killer, Holmes and Watson must brave the desolate moors before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Watch as our intrepid investigators try to escape a dizzy web of clues, silly accents, disguises, and deceit as five actors deftly portray more than 40 characters. Does a wild hellhound prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can our heroes discover the truth in time? Sept. 8, Friday, 2pm and 7pm, “Mollyockett Chorus,” the Mollyockett Chorus is a local group of women singers from a wide geographical area in southwestern Maine. The group sings barbershop style a capella harmony in four parts: tenor, lead, baritone, and bass. Beginning in Norway, Maine with a core group of 8 to 10 enthusiastic women, the chorus was chartered in 1996. They are a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the world’s largest non-profit musical education organization for women singers. The Mollyockett Chorus is committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, fellowship, performance and maintaining a presence in communities all throughout Maine, free, Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Raod, Greene. Sept. 9, Saturday, 7pm, “Novel Jazz Septet,” an evening of classic jazz by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, two pillars of the jazz world. The band will play both well-known standards plus lesser-known compositions, recently transcribed from original scores at the Smithsonian. The Novel Jazz Septet is in their 13th year of doing concerts around New England…keeping the spirit of Duke and Swee’Pea alive and swinging, $15, Vassalboro Grange, Route 32, East Vassalboro. Sept. 10, Sunday, 2pm, “Reading Rumpus,” this event features the works of several Maine children’s book authors and illustrators, their stories adapted and presented as theatrical works. This year’s program will include “Bella’s Fall Coat” and two chapters of “Maxi’s Secrets” by Lynn Plourde, “Crossing Niagara” by Matt Tavares as well as his illustrated “Lighter Than Air” by Matthew Clark Smith, two chapters from “Mystery of the Missing Fox” by Tamra Wight, “Be Quiet!” and “Hotel Bruce” by Ryan T. Higgins, “Thumbs Up For All” by Emily Coye, and “Hattie & Hudson” by Chris Van Dusen along with his illustrated “Even Monsters Need to Sleep” by Lisa Wheeler. Sept. 10, Sunday, 9am, “Waterville Music Boosters 5K Color Run,” to raise money to support music programming in the Waterville public schools. Waterville Music Boosters is partnering with “My School Color Run” to organize this event, which includes an untimed 5K fun run/walk for people of all ages and fitness levels and other exciting activities. This event will take place at Quarry Road Trails in Waterville, and the fun run starts at 9:00 a.m. Along the route, participants pass through vibrant color zones, making it a “colorful experience. ”Each participant who registers by August 24, 2017 is provided with a t-shirt, race bib and a powder color packet that will be thrown into the air at the finish line color celebration.
