When asked about Paula, Wait, Wait host Peter Sagal replied, “Paula Poundstone is the funniest human being I have ever known. Everything she does, thinks, or says is hilarious. She is made of funny. July 3, Tuesday, 7:30pm, “Bowdoin International Music Festival: Rolston String Quartet,” rising stars in chamber music, the Rolston String Quartet won first prize at the 2016 Banff International Competition and will arrive at the Festival fresh off their first European tour. Formed in Canada in 2013, they bring the work of their compatriot composer R. Murray Schafer, whose research into natural soundscapes and the rhythmic patterns of waves inspired his String Quartet No. 2. July 4, Tuesday, 2-9pm, “Music by the Sea,” four band performances at Camden Harbor Park and Amphitheatre from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Camden Rotary Club’s annual Music by the Sea celebration: Steelin’ Thunder, Casco Bay Wind Symphony, MoJO (Mondaynite Jazz Orchestra), and The Lowdown. July 5, Wednesday, 6pm, “Miners Creek Band,” The Miners Creek Bluegrass Band will play a lawn concert from 6 to 7pm on July 5th rain or shine. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and of course the kids and join the fun as the sounds of bluegrass fill the air around Simonton Corner. Always free admission with pass the hat donations taken for the band. The Masons will be selling one hamburger and two hot dogs plates that includes a side, chips, drink and dessert. July 15, Saturday, 11am-2:30pm, “Forage for your Feast,” Ethnobotanists Geraldine Lavin and Hayden Stebbins will lead a foraging workshop and feast. Lavin and Stebbins will lead guests through the forests and meadow of Merryspring to identify native and wild plants. Participants will learn about a number of plants and their properties, including those that are medicinal, edible, and poisonous. Along the way, Geraldine and Hayden will demonstrate how to safely and responsibly harvest wild findings. the workshop ends with all guests working together to prepare a meal with the day’s findings. This is an outdoor program. Guests are advised to wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, and to bring a healthy appetite.
