This year marks a special collaboration between the school, lighting and scenic designer – John Urquhart, and local artist – Susan Mills. Set to a moving score by 19th and 20th century composers, the production features over one hundred of the Topsham ballet school’s classically trained dancers in a new and original version of Hansel and Gretel. True to the Grimm fairy tale, the ballet is rich in contrasts, from the darkness of the witch’s forest offset by the triumphant spirit of the story’s two protagonists. Those familiar with The Ballet School’s productions will recognize Drucker’s customary style of incorporating mixed age groups onstage in creative ways, as well as the theatrical nature of her productions, all enhanced by Urquhart’s magical lighting effects. Drucker, a former dancer with New York City Ballet, will join her students on stage to portray The Witch in this spring’s production. The performance lasts approximately one hour and will delight all ages. General admission tickets available at the door one hour prior to performance, $12, $10/children and seniors, Orion Performing Arts Center, 66 Republic Ave, Topsham.
