“Oratorio Chorale: Baroque Beauties,” St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church, Falmouth

Apr. 7-9, Friday-Sunday, 7pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sat. and Sun, “Swan Lake,” Maine State Ballet celebrates the 140th Anniversary of Swan Lake, Swan Lake premiered in 1877 at Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet, but is the 1895 production by the Mariinksy Theater in St. Petersburg, with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, that has become the standard for most modern productions. Maine State Ballet’s Swan Lake, performed in four acts, incorporates much of the sacrosanct Petipa/Ivanov choreography, along with original choreography by Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele. With costume and set design by Gail Csoboth and all new lighting design by Fred Bernier, this production promises to be a feast for the senses, $19-$25/reserved seating, $2/discount for seniors and children 12 and under, Maine’s State Ballet’s Lopez Theater, 348 US Route One, Falmouth. Apr. 7-9, Friday-Sunday, 7pm/Fri. and Sat, 2pm/Sun, “Annie” presented by Nezinscot Valley Music and Drama Dept., In the depths of the 1930’s, Annie is a fiery young orphan girl who must live in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Her seemingly hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend a short time at the residence of the wealthy munitions industrialist, Oliver Warbucks$8, Buckfield Jr./Sr. High School, 160 Morrill St, Buckfield. Apr. 7, Friday, 8pm, “Dale Watson and Ray Benson,” many of you know Ray Benson, the towering iconic lead singer of the iconic western swing band Asleep at the Wheel. Apr. 8, Saturday, 2pm, “Spring Apres Concert Series: Homegrown Funk,” the third and final show of the Spring Après Concert Series at Sunday River is taking a turn for the funky. From 2-3PM, enjoy Hambone, an energetic seven-piece soul jam band from Hallowell, ME, with roots in blues, rock, funk, and hip hop. Harsh Armadillo of Portsmouth, NH, will close out the festivities from 3-6PM. Apr. 8, Saturday, 7pm, “Casco Bay Wind Symphony,” celebrate the end of winter and the onset of spring with Fiesta! It is a program of Spanish composers, as well as Spanish melodies arranged and re-worked by American Composers: H. Owen Reed’s masterful La Fiesta Mexicana, Alfred Reed’s Second Suite for Band: Latino Mexicana, Joaquin Rodrigo’s Pasodoble para Poco Alcalde, and several others. Apr. 8, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Baroque Beauties,” the Oratorio Chorale presents the rich and diverse music of 17th- and 18th-century, sweetest in the Gale, the Chorale’s women’s chamber chorus, shares the contrast and brilliance of works by Tomás Luis de Victoria, Giovanni Pergolesi, Claudio Monteverdi, and Baroque women composers Barbara Strozzi and Caterina Assandra.
