Feb. 24, Friday, 8pm, “Matt Andersen,” he is no secret to Canada his home, and festivals over here have been wowing audiences like crazy by adding him to the roster. This will be one of those SMAC moment kind of shows. A powerhouse performer with a giant, soul filled voice and commanding stage presence, Matt Andersen has built a formidable following the old fashioned way, touring worldwide and spreading his reputation through word of mouth. Along the way he managed to net three Maple Blues Awards, a Memphis Blues Challenge win, CIMA Road Gold Award certification, a European Blues Award and a JUNO Award nomination for 2014 Weightless. His latest, Honest Man elevates Andersen to a whole new level. Blessed with a rich, gospel soul voice and armed with a new set of songs, the songwriter found a perfect partner in crime in producer Commissioner Gordon (Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, KRS One), pushing himself into new territory. Feb. 25, Saturday, 7am-3pm, “Winter Fest Family Ice Fishing Derby,” there are three age groups and prizes for the largest fish in each division: • Infants to age 6, brook trout, brown trout, splake, togue, salmon, white perch, small and large mouth bass and cusk. Entry fee is $3. • Ages 7-11, brook trout, brown trout, splake, togue, salmon, white perch, small and large mouth bass and cusk. Entry fee is $4. • Ages 11-15, brown trout, cusk and salmon. Entry fee is $5. Five fishing traps is the first-place prize; a tackle box full of fishing accessories is for second place; and an empty tackle box and gift card is the third-place prize. Grand prizes are for three youth lifetime fishing licenses. While children do not have to be Harrison residents to participate in the derby, they have to be Maine residents to win the lifetime fishing licenses. Feb. 25-26, Saturday-Sunday, all day event, “40th Annual Norway-Paris Fish and Game Ice Fishing Derby,” fishing can be done on any area lake or pond, according to President Sylvia Bosse of Norway. Weigh-in will be at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Route 118 in Norway. There are two age categories: juniors (ages 12 years and younger) and adults. For the largest bass, togue, pike, salmon, pickerel, brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout or splake, adults will receive $50; juniors will receive a trophy, $1, Norway Lake, Norway. Feb. 25, Saturday, 11am-4pm, “Cabin Fever Reliever Living History Day,” old Time Fun and A Celebration of President’s Day, 1870-style. Horse-drawn sleigh rides, craft activities, one-room schoolhouse, mansion tours, and a special tribute to George Washington. Stop by for some old-time fun and a belated celebration for Presidents Day. Meet the neighbors and make new friends. Activities are provided by interpreters in period clothing portraying people of the 1800’s Norlands neighborhood or members of the original Livermore Washburn family. Feb. 25, Saturday-Sunday, 7:30pm, “Oratorio Chorale presents Bach+,” in celebration of the Oratorio Chorale’s partnership with the Portland Bach Festival, the Chorale presents Bach +, a concert featuring two Baroque vocal masterworks: Johann Sebastian Bach’s Jesu Meine Freude, one of his most beloved and intricate vocal works, and Heinrich Schütz’s Musikalische Exequien, which inspired the composition of Brahms’s Requiem 200 years later. Several members of the St. Mary Schola will participate as choral singers and soloists along with the Oratorio Chorale Chamber Choir.
