Jan. 12, Thursday, 10:30am, “James Kences: The History of York,” The first of a 9 part series on York history is presented by York historian James Kences and co-sponsored by the Museums of Old York and the York Public Library. Mr. Kences will address the following questions in this session: Why is York’s history important? What are the sources for the study of the history? A review of the published town histories. The organization of the sessions and the motivation for the arrangement of placing most recent history at the beginning. In this first session, Mr. Kences will present a series overview. Why is York’s history important? What are the sources for the study of the history? James will review the published town histories, the organization of the future sessions, and his motivation for the arrangement of placing most recent history at the beginning and working backward. Says Mr. Kences, “The Town has a biography. The more you know, the closer you are to your town. Knowing your town’s history is like knowing your genealogy. Jan. 12, Thursday, 6pm, “Eastern Trail Full Moon Walk,” Meet the group at the rear of the Southern Maine Health Center parking lot in Biddeford. Learn about the plants, trees and wildlife along the trail. Learn the history of the Eastern Trail. The walk takes approximately 90 minutes. Depending on the weather, you may wish to wear snowshoes or ice stabilizers. No flashlights or pets please.
