Dec. 15-17, Thursday-Saturday, 7pm/Thurs.-Sat, 2pm/Sat, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” It’s not only a joyful Christmas tale — it’s the gorgeous love story of George and Mary Bailey, a vivid portrait of the Greatest Generation, a descent into the darkest hour of a man trapped by circumstance, and a powerful meditation on what makes a meaningful life. Each year we present a theatre production based on the true meaning of the season. This is a family tradition. Dec. 16-17, Friday-Saturday, 7pm/Fri, 2pm/Sat, “Oratorio Chorale: Sing We Noel,” The hour-long program provides a celebratory and inspiring prelude to the season for listeners of all ages, with organ and handbell music, sing-along Christmas carols, spirituals, and traditional music by Bach, Monteverdi, Alice Parker, and others. Dec. 17, Friday, 7:30pm, “David Arkenstone’s Winter Fantasy,” Join Windham Hill recording artist and 3-time Grammy® nominee David Arkenstone for a magical evening of festive original and traditional holiday tunes. Often compared to Yanni and Mannheim Steamroller, David’s music has long been synonymous with the holidays, with his albums like Christmas Spirit, Celtic Christmas, and Christmas Lounge. His holiday tunes are traditional to many and are played by symphonies as well as accompanying intricate light displays programmed to his music. Celebrate the season! Dec. 18, Sunday, 2pm, “Sacred Harp Singing,” As always, we welcome one and all to join us in song – including beginners, curious friends, and passing strangers, with no prior musical ability or experience expected or required. We sing unaccompanied in 4 part harmony, primarily from The Sacred Harp (1991 Denson edition) tunebook, with loaner books available to use during the singing for those who don’t have their own copies. The Sacred Harp is a shapenote tunebook that has been in continuous publication with periodic revisions since 1844. The music consists of hymns, fuguing tunes, anthems, and other songs in a style rooted in Colonial New England, popular in Maine up until the Civil War and in areas of the rural South and West up to the present day. Dec. 18, Sunday, 3pm, “Wescustago Youth Chorale’s Winter Concert,” an auditioned, 80 member youth singing group, drawing singers in grades 3-12 from over 12 area towns. Various pieces will be performed for about 90 minutes, reception to follow. Conducted by Amanda Mahaffey of Freeport, Jennifer Hande Runge of Yarmouth, and Renovia Day of Topsham and accompanied by Deana Ingraham Gurney and Katy Stetson.
