Nov. 25, Friday, 9am-4pm, “Craft and Wares Fair,” shop locally with 35+ handmade craft vendors right in the village of Bethel. Christmas and home decor, jewelry, toys, accessories, art, natural bath and beauty products, and lots more. Shop local and handmade for the holiday season – pottery, toys, jewelry, household and holiday décor, handbags, fine foods, knitwear, and so much more. Nov. 25, Friday, 7pm, “Made in Maine: 100-Years of Craftsmanship in Skiing,” the Ski Museum of Maine will present a Fireside Chat that tells the story our state’s long history of manufacturing ski equipment, the demise of the industry in the late 20th century, and its current renaissance in the 21st. The presentation will feature more than 80 old photos, plus two contrasting 12-minute videos. The first will show ski fabrication at Paris Manufacturing Company in the early 1930s, while the second depicts current ski-making operations of YOPP Clandestine in Bethel. From 10 am to 4 pm that day, the New England Ski Museum’s “Skiing in the Pine Tree State” exhibition will be on view at the Robinson House next door. Nov. 26, Saturday, 11am, “Annual Christmas Parade,” the parade starts on Main Street and ends of Market Square in South Paris. This year’s theme is “The Sounds of Christmas.” This parade typically has more than 50 area businesses and organizations participate each year making it the largest Christmas parade in the state, Downtown, Norway. Nov. 27, Sunday, 2pm, “Music for a Medieval Christmas,” The Christmas story told by the Calderwood Consort, narrated in middle English and accompanied by music from the 11th through the 17th centuries. The second half of the program features traditional and folk songs of the season. Nov. 27, Sunday, 2pm, “Christmas Concert,” featuring pianist Phil House and vocalist Kathy Haley, House is the organist at the First Universalist Church in Auburn. He has recorded many CDs of his piano and organ music. He has made a life performing near and far, from his hometown of Bryant Pond to Nashville, Tennessee, and as far away as Vienna, Austria. His days are filled with his duties as an administrator for the John F. Murphy Homes. Haley, of Danville, started performing early as a church organist, pianist and folk singer. From the late 1970s to the early ’90s, she was a lead singer with the top-40 dance band Good and Plenty. Today she’s one of the singers with the newly formed vocal band called The Girls of LA. She has continued her life as a church musician and is the current organist/choir director at Court Street Baptist Church of Auburn. Nov. 27, Sunday, 4pm, “Tree Lighting and Light Parade,” festivities, music, and more begin at Robie Park. Light parade route: Line up at Public Safety building 270 Main St. to South St. to Morrill Ave. to Ball Park Road around Robie Park. You are invited to stop by the Recreation Department and say hello to Santa and Mrs. Claus after the tree lighting! Tree Lighting activities begin at 4:00pm in Robie Park: Horse drawn carriage rides, hot cocoa, music and more. Santa arrives approximately 5:00pm via the Ladder truck and will meet with boys and girls in the Recreation Department after the tree is lit until approx 6:30pm, Gorham Recreation Department, 75 South Street, Gorham.
