“Pineland Farms’ 3rd Annual Harvest Festival,” New Gloucester

Oct. 20, Thursday, 6:30pm, “The Zany, Majestic Bard,” a lively show celebrating the works of Shakespeare. Oct. 20-23, Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm, “On Golden Pond,” a classic American play by Ernest Thompson that’s every bit as touching, warm, and witty today as when it debuted on Broadway in 1979. Retired couple Ethel and Norman Thayer spend every summer at their camp on Golden Pond. This year, their daughter, Chelsea, visits- bringing along her 13-year-old son, Billy. Oct. 21-23, Friday-Sunday, 7pm/Fri. and Sat, 4pm/Sun, “Little Shop of Horrors,” A Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II,” after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed singing carnivore promises fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. Seymour soon discovers that “Audrey II” is intent on conquering Earth. Oct. 22, Saturday, 10am, “Pineland Farms’ Third Annual Harvest Festival,” a family friendly event including harvest activities for all ages by Pineland Farms’ Education Department. Activities will include apple cider demonstrations, “Click, Clack, Boo” woods walk, face painting, farmers obstacle course, 4-acre corn maize, and a complimentary showing of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. Oct. 22, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Fiddle-icious in Concert,” a non-profit, all volunteer community orchestra with members from Kittery to Augusta, as they take to the stage to share their uplifting music. Fiddle-icious is a large and vibrant group of Maine musicians playing fiddle, piano, harp, guitar, banjo, accordion, cello, tin whistle, concertina and upright bass. Their tunes are passed on from the Irish, Scottish, Quebecois and Acadian traditions and include reels, jigs, marches, hornpipes, waltzes, step-dancing and singing, $10, $5/students, McCormack Performing Arts Center, Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Avenue, Gorham. Oct. 22, Saturday, 8pm, “Jonathan Edwards,” Songs of passion, insight, and humor, all rendered in a pure and powerful tenor which has only grown sweeter over his 40 year career. Since 1971, Jonathan has released 15 albums, including Blue Ridge, his standard-setting collaboration with bluegrass favorites the Seldom Scene, and Little Hands, his collection of children’s songs, which was honored with a National Library Association award. This is one veteran performer who is neither grizzled nor nostalgic. An artist who measures his success by his ability to attract and take good care of an audience for four decades, these days Jonathan is likely to be found on the road. “I’ve been…doing what I do best, which is playing live in front of people. Oct. 23, Sunday, 2pm, “USM Wind Ensemble: Time and Winds,” The USM Wind Ensemble presents their concert “Time and Winds” showcasing the evolution of the chamber winds in the 1900’s. The concert opens with Tielman Susato’s “Selections from The Dansereye; the earliest piece of music for winds performed in consort with USM Director of Bands Dr. Trae Blanco conducting from the harpsichord. Czech composer Ernest Kreneck is highlighted with his comical Three Merry Marches complete with movement and musical amusement. The concert closes with Kurt Weill’s iconic Threepenny Suite from his opera of the same name.
