Oct. 14, Friday, 7:30pm, “White Like Me: A Honky Dory Puppet Show,” Called “one of the most original and talented political satirists working in the theater” by the New York Times, Paul Zaloom is an OBIE-winning puppeteer, filmmaker, actor, and performance artist who has written, designed and performed 15 solo spectacles, including Fruit of Zaloom, Zaloominations, Sick But True, The Mother of All Enemies, and WHITE LIKE ME. Oct. 15, Saturday, 1:30pm, “Vintage Baseball Game,” Pejepscot Historical Society hosts this 19th century baseball game between Dirigo Vintage Base Ball Club and the new Sunrise Club of Brunswick. Bring your family and friends, chairs or blankets, and a picnic, and enjoy an afternoon of old-time baseball! Teams play by official 1861 rules, which are very different from modern baseball regulations. Audience members will be invited onto the field to test out their skills after the official game. Light snacks and bottled water available for purchase, and PHS baseball collection items on display—including one of the oldest bats in existence! Oct. 15, Saturday, 7:30pm, “Peppino D’Agostino,” He emerged on the musical scene in the late 1980’s and helped redefine the boundaries of the acoustic guitar. His virtuosic technique, penchant for open tunings, and percussive effects are the basis of his unique compositional style. His album, Every Step of the Way, was named one of the top three acoustic guitar albums of all time by Acoustic Guitar magazine. Since his debut recording in his native Italy, he has performed in more than two dozen countries, been featured at prestigious international music festivals and performed in world renowned venues including the Kolner Philarmonie in Cologne. He frequently plays with prominent artists including Tommy Emmanuel, Leo Kottke, Martin Taylor and Eric Johnson. Oct. 15, Saturday, 8pm, “Novel Jazz,” performing an evening of jazz by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, The musicians of this group have been playing straight-ahead jazz for audiences throughout Maine (and beyond) for several decades. Collectively, they share over two centuries of experience in the jazz idiom. Since 2009, the band has been focused on the enormously rich repertoire (~3000 compositions) of Duke Ellington and his musical collaborator Billy Strayhorn, doing an annual concert series of Ellington/Strayhorn works throughout the state. Trombonist Barney Balch began regular visits to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. to work in the Duke Ellington collection, digging out gems by both Ellington and Strayhorn, bringing them back to life in summer time concerts. Trumpeter, Michael Mitchell, and alto saxophonist, Bryan Jones, also contribute arrangements to the mix while the entire group assists with refining the works, $18/advance, $20/door, The Frontier, fort Andross, Brunswick.
