Aug. 4-6, Thursday-Saturday, 7:30pm/Thurs-Sat, 2pm/Thurs. and Fri, “Fiddler on the Roof,” set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on a poor dairyman named Tevye and his five daughters. Aug. 4-5 ,7 and 10, Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Wednesday, 6pm, “The Tempest,” performed by the Camden Shakespeare Festival, it is set on a remote island, where the sorcerer Prospero, rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skilful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. Aug. 5-7, Friday-Sunday, all day events, “Annual Blueberry Festival,” South Freeport Congregational Church hosts their annual Blueberry Festival on 8/5-8/7. On Friday, 8/5, the festival opens mid-afternoon with attic treasures and jewelry in the community hall followed by a lobster dinner and a concert by Maine’s Wicked Good Band. On Saturday, 8/6, the festival reopens at 9 AM with attic treasures, crafters, home baked goodies, blueberry and otherwise, including pies, cookies, muffins, pickles, etc. The KIDZ Zone opens at 11 AM with a dunk tank, bounce house, games, face painting, children’s minstrel, miniature pony cart, an animal parade, etc. Lobster rolls will be available for lunch along with grilled burgers and hot dogs. Blueberry lemonade and smoothies will be available all day and blueberry ice cream. On Sunday morning, 8/7, blueberry pancake breakfast will be served starting at 8 AM followed by a church service at 9:30 under a tent on the church lawn. Aug. 5-7, Friday-Sunday, 12pm/Friday, 9am/Sat. and Sun, “35th Annual Maine Antiques Festival,” Maine’s LARGEST antiquing event since 1981 featuring a wide variety of antiques and vintage collectibles offered for sale in booths indoors, outdoors and under tents. Everything from 18th century furnishings to mid-20th century vintage collectibles from dealers from as far away as California and Canada. This is a must see for advanced collectors as well as beginners. Held at the beautiful Union Fairgrounds in the quaint town of Union, Maine just off route 17 35 miles east of Augusta and 12 miles west of Camden. Aug. 5, Friday, 2pm and 7pm, “The Maine Highland Fiddlers,” Maine Highland Fiddlers are part of the traditional Celtic music revival that thrives throughout the North Atlantic rim. The music of Scotland, Cape Breton, Ireland and the Shetlands resonates well with the rich heritage of Maine’s early Celtic settlements. Along with fiddles, the group includes guitar, bodhran, and piano. The group of seven musicians gathers from throughout Southern, Western and Mid-Coast Maine to perform, pass on, and renew the Celtic fiddle tradition in Maine. Aug. 6, Saturday, 6pm, “Pan Fried Steel,” a community steel band with a diverse repertoire including calypso, reggae, soca, Latin, swing and covers from Charlie Parker to Jimmy Buffett to CCR. Pan Fried has performed on boats, in gazebos, in rose gardens, under tents, next to farm animals, behind a clown, and once with Yoko Ono.
