The Atlantic Music Festival returns after an impressive seventh season, and once more welcomes you to an incredible series of free orchestral and chamber concerts, presented by some of the best and brightest artists on the classical music scene. The Opera Workshop is proud to present the first Art Song Recital of the season! July 7-10 and 13, 8pm/Thurs.-Sat, 4pm/Sunday, 2pm and 7pm/Wednesday, “Cheshire Cats,” Grown women, aching feet, and heaving bosoms! 2016 marks the 20th year of the London Moonwalk. Walk the Walk is a grant making charity that raises money for vital breast cancer causes. More than 300,000 women have donned fanciful bras and posh trainers and have participated in either the marathon or half marathon. Friends – Hilary, Siobhan, Yvonne, Vicky and Maggie – have accepted the challenge to speed walk thirteen miles through the London night. When a member of the team must drop out the only available replacement is, well, a Tom Cat! A genuinely funny and even touching ensemble piece, Cheshire Cats is a cross between a girl’s night out and a real mission to support a cause close to many hearts, with plenty of laughs and a few tears along the way, $17-$35, Lakewood Theater, 76 Theater Road, Madison. July 9, Saturday, 7pm, “Brio,” three talented entertainers who will present an eclectic selection of original songs, creative covers, and quirky classical daring-do. Spicing it all up with invented moments of unplanned music, the harmonic magic in the power of three will shine forth. BRIO’s members are Matt Loosigian, Deb Hensley and Martin Swinger who accompany themselves on guitar, harp and percussion as part of their program. July 11-13, Sunday, Monday-Wednesday, “44th Central Maine Egg Festival,” the Town of Pittsfield is home to the Egg Festival. A quiet industrial community of less than 5,000 people, Pittsfield welcomes more than 35,000 visitors each July. A large Street Dance, Egglympics, Window Painting, Art Show and Craft Fair are just a few of the scheduled events during the week leading up to the Big Day – Saturday, July 16 – which features The Big Parade, Kiwanis Karnival with its rides and booths, and lots of music and food. It is the event of the year in the region. The festivities start out with live music concerts at Hathorn Park on Monday, July 11. Tuesday, July 12 features the Art Show, Sidewalk Art Contest and Street Dance; and Wednesday, July 13 focuses on the famous “Egglympics” for the children; Art Show and live music at Hathorn Park, free/cost for rides, Manson Park, 137 Crosby Street, Pittsfield. July 12, Tuesday, 5pm, “The Ballroom Thieves with The Maine Youth Rock Orchestra,” Snow Pond welcomes the The Ballroom Thieves accompanied by the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra for a special evening concert and picnic at the Bowl In the Pines. The Ballroom Thieves trio finds a captivating mélange of acoustic styles, blending folk conventions with modern hymnals, delta blues grit with rich harmonies, exploring the basic constructions of pop music while almost wholeheartedly rejecting its restrictions at the same time. The Maine Youth Rock Orchestra runs in conjunction with the Maine Academy of Modern Music and features students 10-18.
