April 21-23, Thursday-Saturday, 7pm/Thurs, 7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 2:3pm/Sat, ““Roamin’ Catholic: A Comedy,” a “hit”larious new comedy about a dedicated Irish-Catholic priest who comes home to reveal a long held secret- he wants to experience life and love! It not only turns his family and friends upside down, but his own soul takes a revelatory journey down a comical path as well. Broken promises, sibling rivalries, a kidnapping, angry women left at the altar, confessions in strange places, Vegas hookers, dead people reappearing and a surprise twist you won’t see coming, are but a few of the crazy elements found in this “must see” uproarious romp, $18, $15/seniors, The Footlights Theatre, 190 US Route 1, Falmouth. FMI: 207-747-5434, www.thefootlightsinfalmouth.com.
April 21, Thursday, 8pm, “Colin Hay,” familiar to millions as the frontman, songwriter, and vocalist of pop sensation Men at Work (“Down Under,” “Overkill,” “Who Can it Be Now?”). Hay is justifiably proud of his place in pop history, but since moving to Los Angeles in 1989, he’s made 11 critically- acclaimed solo albums, including the highly successful Man at Work, and has recently released a new album “Next Year People” on Compass Records. Over the past 15 years Hay has reinvented himself as a solo artist, regularly selling out theaters and listening rooms across the US and around the world and introducing himself to a new generation of fans in the process, $28-$32, Westbrook Performing Arts Center, 471 Stroudwater Street, Westbrook. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche, her two young daughters and Grandpa the Socialist and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Simon-style, $13-$15, Schoolhouse Arts Center, 16 Richville Rd, Standish. FMI: 207-642-3743, www.schoolhousearts.org.
April 22-24, Friuday-Sun,7:30pm/Fri. and Sat, 5pm/Sun, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” all is fair in love and war, but in a marriage that embraces more of the latter, all bets are off. George, a professor at a small college, and his wife, Martha, have just returned home, drunk from a Saturday night party. Martha announces, amidst general profanity, that she has invited a young couple–an opportunistic new professor at the college and his shatteringly naive new bride–to stop by for a nightcap. As soon as they arrive the charade begins. Drinks and words flow as inhibitions begin to melt, $11/seniors, $15/general, Russell Hall, USM, 37 College Avenue, Gorham. A fun way to learn about history and what rural Maine life was like soon after the Civil War.
