The plot displays many classic elements of farce, including puns, the slamming of doors, cases of mistaken identity (frequently involving characters disguising themselves as one another), and satirical comments on social class. It not only turns his family and friends upside down, but his own soul takes a revelatory journey down a comical path as well. April 8, Friday, 8pm, “Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra,” conducted by Robert Lehmann in a concert featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 “Choral.” Soloists are Elisabeth Marshall, soprano; Margaret Yauger, mezzo-soprano; Martin Lescault, tenor; and Malcolm Smith, bass. Also featured on the program will be the winners of the 2015-16 USM Concerto/Aria Competition, the USM Chorale, the USM Chamber Singers, and the USM Invitational High School Choir conducted by Nicolás Alberto Dosman. April 9, Saturday, 7pm, “Bold Riley Concert,” an evening of folk music, Bold Riley started as a simple music project among friends, but quickly gained momentum thanks to the group’s contagious enthusiasm and commitment to bringing joyful acoustic folk music to the greater community, comprising members from all over southern Maine, the group is known for its soaring vocal harmonies and diverse instrumentation, $12/adults, $10/students, North Windham Union Church, 723 Roosevelt Trail., Windham. April 10, Sunday, 2pm, “New Hampshire Fiddle Ensemble,” a group of acoustic musicians including guitars, mandolins, banjos, and basses. Around 60 professional and amateur musicians, ages 6 to 85, who love all styles of acoustic music produce a high quality show. It’s a show with kids playing fiddles behind their backs and hula-hooping while they play, a 75 year old woman stepping up to rip up a bluegrass fiddle tune solo, a 60-year old tea-totaler who can belt out a great Irish drinking song, a middle-aged woman singing the blues, a stone mason who steps up to play an upright bass solo on a swing song, and so much more.
