Imagine Star-gazing From the Spa by Silver Lake, Shapleigh, Maine

Purchase this raised ranch by Silver Lake in Shapleigh, Maine, and you’ll be living the dream. Located at 157 Silver Lake Road, this year-round house was well thought out before being constructed in 2005.

The 2,060-square foot home is bursting with great features—double insulation in the attic; wind bracing in the walls; radiant heat in the downstairs, spacious den, full bathroom and upstairs bedrooms; three zones of heat; a wood stove and back-up generator; custom trim and white oak cabinets; back deck, front deck & side deck; lake views; adjacent land preserve; sunlight all day and beautiful sunset views.

One of the two downstairs bedrooms.

Of the three bedrooms, two are located upstairs. As the current owner/house designer tells us, “Although there is a three-bedroom septic, there are two extra rooms that can be used as bedrooms.

This home has a large living space with lots of natural light an

The living room runs from the back of the house to the front, offering those inside a panoramic view. “It’s like living in a tree house,” says the current owner. And the kitchen overlooks the lake.

The dining room looks out over the lake.

The house was built on a back lot to take advantage of the privacy, but also the gorgeous view of Silver Lake

And on one of the decks is a hot tub! “Out back is a land preserve,” says the current owner. “It is incredibly private, and a haven when we are staring at stars from the hot tub.”

Right-of-way to the lake.

The lake is directly in front of the house and the property includes a 20-foot private, deeded right-of-way to the water. “Nobody is ever allowed to use it or even cross it without our permission,” she says. “It is rare to have a private right-of-way, and we have our own dock along with a beach area.”

With all of these special features and its location, this house is a little piece of heaven. “There are trails out back for four-wheeling, or walking, loons migrate here every year, and put on a spectacular audio show, we’ve had an occasional moose that has meandered across our back yard, and always a plethora of wild turkeys putting on one show or another.”

View of the lake from lakeside.

Favorite lake moments include July 4th activities. “The fireworks rate as the best I’ve ever seen, and each side of the lake shoots them off in a big extravaganza that lasts for hours. We watch that from our front deck, or right down at the lake on our dock.”

Winter time also evokes wonderful memories. “The winters are fabulous, private and serene, when the ice crackles, and the wood stove is burning, and there are cookies in the oven, and chicken soup bubbling on the stove, well, it doesn’t get any better than that,” says the owner.

And it’s easy to share those fun memories with others. No only is there plenty of room in the house, but the property encompasses a little more than an acre. “We always have large family functions here, and everyone has a great time playing horseshoes, or swimming, or conversing in the hot tub all four seasons,” she says. “This property is also large enough to house a large garage for a boat and four-wheelers.”

“It is a place where we find peace and solitude, and recharge our batteries at the end of the day.”

Hmmmm . . . then why are they selling

“We are selling the property because we want to move a little closer to where we both work. My husband works in Portland, I work in Cape Elizabeth, and our children live in that direction. We would like to be closer to work and to them,” she tells us.

When we asked if there was anything else she wanted to share, she had this to say: “This is a house that you must see, to realize the beauty of it. Don’t let the fact that it has a private ROW scare you off. A lot of people think they want to be right on the water, but there are problems that come with that, because there is no privacy on a 50-foot lot. Living in this house, we have the best of everything. Privacy galore, and there is not a view like this anywhere else on Silver Lake, and the lake is directly out our front door, not any more then 200 feet away, which is a lot closer than places that are right on the lake.”

Piqued your interest? Give us a call—don’t wait because this is the place you’ll want to recharge your own batteries at the end of a long day or week.
