Oct. 29, Thursday, 6-9pm, “1st Annual YCCAC Halloween Deilidh & Silent Auction,” Ceilidh, pronounced Kay-lee, refers to a social event with Irish and Scottish folk music, singing, traditional dancing, food and drink.)The event will feature the Celtic Dance Music Trio, Boghat. There will also be a “Dance Caller,” to serve as Master of Ceremonies and instruct guests on the lively dance steps. Dress for the event is casual—by which we mean, regular street dress, Halloween costume, or Scottish kilt and attire. It’s all up to you—wear what you’re most comfortable in. The music and dance, food and drink, the auction and . . . Oct. 30, Friday, 7pm, “Big Band Benefit,” a Halloween Eve celebration that blends the sophistication of a 1940s supper club with the colorful festivity of a Halloween costume party. The event features an array of hors ‘doeuvres, an elegant 4-course dinner, cash bar, and live performance by the 16-piece Blue Note Big Band with vocalist Denise Therrien. Their “Tribute to the Big Bands” will include an appealing mix of classic musical favorites from the swing era for dancing, listening and singing along. The band is known for its renditions of the unique styles of the great bands and band leaders including Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Harry James and others. The performance will highlight such memorable tunes as Jersey Bounce, Sunrise Serenade, Foggy Day, ‘Swonderful, Night Train and more.
