“Aeolus Quartet,” Collins Center for the Arts, Orono

Oct. 1-4, Thursday-Sunday, 7pm/Thurs, 8pm/Fri. and Sat, 3pm/Sun, “Ring of Fire: the Music of Johnny Cash,” the legendary Man in Black crossed musical genres and cultural divides in a career that spanned decades. With the power and persistence of the freight trains that echoed throughout this youth, he sang of love and loneliness, faith and family, slips and salvation. Oct 1, Thursday, 7pm and 9pm, “Tom Cotter, America’s Got Talent,” high energy, rapid-fire style of comedy leaves audiences clutching their sides and rolling in the aisles. Recently, Tom became the first comedian to ever reach the finals of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”. His runner up finish on the show has catapulted him to the comedic stratosphere. Opening for Tom that evening is Karen Morgan. Oct. 4, Sunday, 3pm, “Aeolus Quartet,” Praised by the Baltimore Sun for combining “smoothly meshed technique with a sense of spontaneity and discovery,” the Aeolus Quartet is committed to presenting time-seasoned masterworks and new cutting-edge works to widely diverse audiences with equal freshness, dedication, and fervor. Violinists Nicholas Tavani and Rachel Shapiro, violist Gregory Luce, and cellist Alan Richardson formed the Aeolus Quartet in 2008 at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Since its inception, the all-American quartet has been awarded prizes at nearly every major competition in the United States and performed across the globe with showings “worthy of a major-league quartet” (Scott Cantrell, Dallas Morning News). Oct. 7, Wednesday, 7pm, “March to May,” Seattle-based modern folk duo, by March 2013 March to May had co-written their first two songs, by April they had a paid gig under their belts, and by May they had a name and shows booked out into the months ahead. Two years and over 80 shows later, they released their critically acclaimed debut EP, “The Water’s Edge,” to a sold-out show on a historic steamship, $10-$15, Unity College, Center for the Performing Arts, 42 Depot St, Unity.
