It is 1927. Oft-married Jimmy Winter must now marry someone respectable or his mother will disinherit him. So he’s marrying Eileen, the finest interpreter of modern dance in the western world, the daughter of an ultra-conservative senator, the niece of a prohibitionist dowager, and a woman he doesn’t truly love. Leaving his bachelor party a drunken Jimmy meets Billie, Cookie, and Duke, a trio of bootleggers looking to stash 400 bottles of booze. In a drunken stupor Jimmy mentions the 40 room estate on Long Island that his family never uses – and passes out. The rest is about all the good things in life – music and laughter and falling in love.
