Aug. 20, Thursday, 5-8pm, “Goldenoak and Tomato Tomato at Fresh Air Market,” “Tomato/Tomato is comprised of husband and wife team, John and Lisa McLaggan. This quirky twosome performs a mix of bluegrass, jazz, blues, and folk music. Their dynamic live performances feature John on vocals and guitar and Lisa on vocals, washboard, bass drum, and tambourine. It’s not unusual for her to be doing all four things at once!” “From the foothills of Western Maine, GoldenOak is a folk band with a unique blend of beautiful harmonies, melodic guitar, mandola, cello, and percussion. Their songs range from familiar old-time tunes to new, intriguing originals, catering to the musical delights of music lovers everywhere.” The Fresh Air Market will be set up along Merchants Plaza and in Pickering Square. Aug. 20, Thursday, 7:30pm, “Susan Ferre Organ Concert,” a concert by Susan Ferré from Gorham, New Hampshire, on Maine’s largest 19th-Century tracker-action pipe organ, E. & G. G. Hook’s magnificent Opus 288, Susan Ferré directs a non-profit organization, Music in the Great North Woods, bringing classical music to the North Country. She serves St. Barnabas Episcopal Church as Organist and Director of Music. She maintains an active concert career, having performed widely in Europe, including three visits to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Scandinavia, Brazil, Canada, and throughout the United States. She has served the faculties of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology, University of North Texas and the University of Paris at Vincennes. For more than twenty years Ferré directed the Texas Baroque Ensemble, employing early singing styles and original instruments. She holds degrees from Texas Christian University and the Eastman School of Music. A Fulbright Scholar, recipient of the Diplome d’Orgue et Improvisation from the Schola Cantorum in Paris, as well as the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of North Texas, Ferré was honored with a Distinguished Alumna award from that university in 2001. Aug. 22, Saturday, 10am-1pm, “Great Fire of 1911 Walking Tour,” in April, 1911 a spark in a riverside hay shed ignited a fire that devastated much of Bangor’s downtown and threatened many of her neighborhoods. You’ll follow the flames’ path and learn which structures survived and how Bangor and her people recovered from the devastation, $10/adults, $5/12 and under, Thomas A. Aug. 22, Saturday, seatings at 5pm and 6pm, “Trashcan Turkey Supper,” the menu includes turkey, stuffing, gravy made from scratch, real mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, rolls, cranberry sauce and a choice of homemade desserts. Beat the heat in the air-conditioned dining room, which is handicap accessible. This supper is part of an ongoing program to fund repairs to and upkeep of the Eddington Clifton Civic Center (Comins Hall). This year the group has launched a “Repair Our Windows” campaign, which has a goal of raising a $17,000 goal.
