Apr. 3, Friday, 7pm, “Joseph’s Haydn’s ‘The Seven Last Words of Christ,’ Betsy Kobayashi, the founder of Pineland Suzuki School in Manchester, will bring the Hallelujah String Quartet to Bangor for a performance of Joseph Haydn’s masterpiece “The Seven Last Words of Christ”. Composed in 1783 for the Good Friday service at the Cathedral of Cádiz in Spain, it is considered to be one of the greatest pieces of Easter music, Hayden’s seven sonatas are meditations on the following phrases gathered from the four Christian Gospels: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do,” “Surely, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” “Woman, behold your son! Apr. 4, Saturday, 9am-11:30am, “Signs of the Seasons,” trains volunteers to observe and record phenology, which is the timing of seasonal changes in plants and animals. Program training includes information on the history and science of phenology, the connection to our changing climate and an overview of the current research being conducted. Participants will gain practical experience for observing and recording plant and animal life cycles in their own backyard, schoolyard or other community location. Additionally participants will learn how their observations become valuable data when added to Nature’s Notebook, the national online database hosted by the USA-National Phenology Network, free, Bangor Land Trust, 8 Harlow Street, Suite 4B, Bangor.
